RPG/D&D terms and phrases that are no longer clever or amusing.

What's the reasoning behind the term wilderninja? It's new to me.

The new ranger now has camoflague and Hide In Plain Sight while in natural surroundings, making it stealthier than it was before. So, someone coined the term "wilderninja" to describe it.

Well, rangers used to be TWF-wildernazi (favored enemy thing), but now that they are no longer forced into TWFing, and that they have camouflage and hide in plain sight, they are logically wilderninja.

And Pokemount is much less old than, say, "the munchkin nerf got the broken shaft". YMMV.

Iconic. Everything has to have an "iconic" example. I just hate that word, hate the concept, and it needs to be put out of its misery.

True, "iconic" sounds like marketing speak...

"Worst. X. Evar.", quoting the Simpsons' Comic Book Guy, also needs a bullet. The geeks who say it and write it don't seem to realise that it's actually a mockery or parody of their attitude, and exactly the kind of complaint some of them use it for, resulting in very sad irony when it gets used with unironic intentions by geeks who think it sounds kewl...

Munchkin.

Let's get rid of it.
I think its a fun game don't get rid of it!

Here are some terms we can get rid of though
Jack Chick - er or get rid of him too one or the other.
Shock and Awe - Okay it was not funny when the army did it and its not funny in the meetings at work.
Dwarf - They perfer to be called the Verticaly challanged.

I must admit, outside of Munchkin, I haven't heard ANY of these terms before for gaming. I don't even know what the hell Pokemon is (aside from it being a card game or something).

But I wouldn't be sad to see Munchkin go - it is a term devoid of all real meaning anyway, beyond being used as an insult to someone who uses a different gaming style than a game where reaching 12th level, after 120 nights of gaming, you finally manage to get that rusty dagger+1 as your first magic item (in the whole party) - and you also manage to locate some clothes, after having to run around naked, with no equipment, for the past 6 levels.

"Munchkin" literally means "childish" - which, considering we all play a glorified game of "let's pretend", is quite ironic and funny. :p

For "poke-mounts", I blame Psion, unless he proves me wrong. :D However, thinking of Mara the Paladin from Piratecat's game yell, "Luminor! I choose YOU!" gives me the grins. :)

As for terms I'd like to see go away:

3.5e - 3E REVISED, or 3eR, people!

"paly" to refer to paladins

rouge - because all thieves don't wear makeup

"punk" - a term for which the early fans of William Gibson should be shot. ;)

I've had sorceror characters who specialized in summoning spells and used to shout "I choose you celestial badger!" and things like that all the time. It can be fun!
