RPG "Dating Apps" For LFG

NOTE: "Dating App" is a metaphor here. I am NOT talking about geek romance.

I am just curious if there is a such thing as a "dating app" (or website or whatever) for RPG gamers looking for new players, a GM or groups to join. Not just a place where people can put up a LFG request, but one with a robust profile system a la a dating app to help narrow down the potential matches to the most likely.

If so, have you used one? If not, should there be one?

I think that Start playing is kind of like that, but paid. There's also reddit r/LFG

Edit: ok on a second read it isn't like that.

Closest ive seen is discord channels that have forms in them. The advertiser can put all the details in and a conversation can be had right in the ad.

The pathfinder discord if you want to check it out.

Lots of them pop up from time to time, but none of them have ever gained that critical mass. The problem is the hobby is niche enough that it's hard to find an app with more than just you in your area.

Yeah, that's the biggest issue. You roll out a new app that you think will be the Tinder of gaming.. And you advertise it on all the forums and blogs.. Maybe you get 5000 people to try it out.. What are the odds that they will all be close enough together to actually play a game? Or the odds that the sub sets of the users that are close enough to play together actually want to play the same game?

I think most users would whiff right off the bat, log out.. And forget about the app until their phone tells them they need to free up space and they go to uninstall.

Not saying it can't happen.. But the deck seems stacked against it. Right now using existing social media seems to be the best bet. As much as I hate the site.. FB isn't a bad spot if your area has a decent LFG group

Yeah. Basically there needs to b one app that everybody is on. But I can't imagine that happening without the official backing of WotC or something (aren't they making one? That will probably be the one if they do).

It seems like it would be a reasonably useful feature for Beyond, I guess. Or is it something forum software could approximate with profile matching and friend lists?
