RPG with best shooting mechanics?

There was always Aftermath. It was... oppressively detailed.

Frankly I'm not 100% convinced the difference between a S&W .357 revolver and a Taurus .357 revolver are worth worrying about from a systems standpoint.

A decent weapons system for an RPG (IMHO) should have some kind of correlation between the games damage system and weapon caliber. (And if a sword and an axe do the same damage I don't need to sweat the distinction between a .380 and a 9mm do I?) RoF rules and proficiency rules for sniping, full auto, etc are nice. And I should be able to assign a gun an accuracy rating and a malfunction chance.

Everything after that is over thinking it, really. I don't ever want to deal with a player taking his gun into a gunsmith to get his rifle re-bored to a 1 in 15 twist on order to better match his new home loaded 172gr .308 nostler partions with 43 grains of Pyrodex FFFF.

Everything else I can just look up in Jane's. Weight, number of rounds, safety systems, etc.

I always like Millennium's End by Chameleon Eclectic (sadly out of print, but I think one of the local game stores has a couple new copies tucked away) and its overlay system, it rolls accuracy, range, cover, target body position, called shots, and to-hit location all into one mechanic. Damage is based on the round and where it strikes the target; accuracy, rate of fire, etc. are based on the weapon. Firearms combat in ME is very deadly though, one or two hits is usually all it takes to put someone out of the fight, especially if they aren't wearing kevlar or some other form of protection. Ultramodern Firearms is an awesome gun reference too, regardless of what system you play. UF was redone for D20. Character creation is a bit number intensive and takes some time, but game play was nice a quick in general.

The author frequents ENWorld, he may know where you could find copies of the game and accessories.

Edit: I just watched the Aces and Eights video, it strikes me as very similar to how ME works

I'm curious to know if some people on here know of some great RPG or RPG supplement that I'm not aware of, that would be great for firearms. Anyone?

Phoenix Command. Everything else is just a pale imitation. ;)

Bye

Another bad one, TSR's old Boothill...bah!

I'd like to echo Call of Cthulhu, definitely one of the best all around RPGs ever published.

Steve Jackson Games had some really good ones--even Car Wars (based loosely on the Mad Max movies) was pretty nifty, the main problem being it took so long to set up your rig, and sometimes the action move very slow as compared to how fast everything was moving in actual time.

Just how much do you know about Spycraft?

I bought a lot of the books for Spycraft 1.0, but I haven't seen the latest one.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions so far. A lot of these systems sound interesting, and I'm going to look into them. Nice YouTube video, too.

my take on firearms for D20 that I did while back :)

agree with previous poster: a 9mm is a 9mm is a 9mm!!! jeesh, bar #rounds carried and reliability/accuracy, firearms are all pretty much alike, in certain broad categories.

Some folk preffer a certain gun, thus, if they are focused on that weapon, they should take a small penalty when using a similar weapon.

ie, Joe loves a 9mm beretta 92F...he runs out of ammo/clips...and picks up a 9mm Walther P38. Both guns do almost identical damage..but Joe isn't used to it so small penalty to hit and less # rounds carried. You can add in a small increased chance of jamming as more recent firearms tend ot be more reliable than the P38 (which is sitll a good weapon).

No need ot get too involved in this stuff :)
*he says, then looks at his 3.5 firearms rules..., uh oh!* hehe.

Dude, you have to photocopy those cowboy sheets and hang them on the dartboard. Who cares about how well your guy can shoot when you know it's all about how well you can throw the darts?
