Where do you LIVE, Phil? Man. These days you've got to be pretty far into the boonies before you can't get cable connectivity. Or are you non-US?

I'm currently facing the fact that the only high bandwidth provider for my new apartment is the local cable monopoly ... my internet bill has shot from 15.00 a month to 43.00 a month. Got me STEAMED.

Apparently the US, out of all the nations with an established high bandwidth connectivity market, pays far and away the most for internet.

I can feel his pain - I can't get cable and I'm not too far from Raleigh, in the heart of NC. For fast internet I *could* go with satellite internet..for just $600 to install and $99 a month! :D What a deal!! Let me *NOT* jump on that :\

So I got some no name dial up that squeaks by at 28.8 on a good day..oh, and my work computer that zips around on DSL

It all balances out. In the US, we also don't pay for local calls. They do in a lot of other countries, thus calling an ISP with a modem cost people money and delayed widespread Internet in a lot of countries while dial-up ISPs were booming in the US because of free local calls. A lot of other countries are also a lot more urban and compact than the US. It's easier and cheaper to wire and maintain high-speed lines in a city than in rural areas.

I can't get to RPGnet, either. It's been lagging a lot recently, and was in-and-out yesterday, though by afternoon it was just plain out. Has remained so all day today, as well.

I'm 30 miles from Austin. RoadRunner is available 1 mile from me but TimeWarner told me they have no plans to come near me. I can't even get cable here.

I managed to log in earlier today and read through a few threads (oh so very slowly). After a while it all froze, though, and ever since then I haven't even been able to log out any more.
