Alright, I'll bite: What IS a freelance exotic pet trainer?

CZ

It's a person who trains exotic pets for a small fee in their spare time.

Yes I did this at one point in my life. Now I work in an office. It's very different :) Well...actually...not THAT different...

I would agree--the exception of course, would be when applying for some kind of game industry position. Bioware, for instance, expects familiarity with the fantasy role-playing genre from its applicants. It might well be a positive at Electronic Arts or some other companies as well.

Of course, my resume hasn't exactly been knocking people out so maybe I'm not the best person to take advice from.

I concur. Leave these sections off your resume, it's really irrelevant. You should try to keep your resume to one or two pages as well.

I would put it for the simple reason that I know I'd be MISERABLE working for a boss who didn't appreciate a creative mind and/or a boss who wasn't open minded enough to accept it as a part of who I am.

Being a role-player doesn't mean you have an open mind; it simply states one of your hobbies and how you like to spend your time.

I also concur that it is a rather irrelevant section of a resume, but sometimes it is necessary if your other experience and prowess doesn't push your hobbies to an unwanted page 2.

I think you misunderstood me (my fault for writing in a hurry at work)

Being a role-player doesn't mean you have an open mind.

But if I put that I played D&D on a resume, and my boss automatically assumed I was some sort of anti-social fiend, and didn't even ask me about it, I don't think I could work for someone like that.

ps. I work for a publisher.

Boy, I know some people in the office where *I* work (probably including me) that could benefit from some training.

Hmmm... In my head that sounded funnier. :-) Let's just say that I agree that training exotic pets is a good background to have before taking an office job.
