RttToEE question

My bro and I are playing D&D together. I'm the DM, and he's a single character. What level would be safe for him to be before I run him through the adventure alone? He's 8th level now.

Thanks,

I don't think that you should run this mega adventure with a single player, it isn't reall written that way. You'd be better off picking up a few smaller modules and running those. That, however, is not what you asked.

Its difficult to gauge the power of a single player vs a group. I'd say that, rather than jack the player level up to 8, it would work better to start with only 2 extra levels or so and then decrease the power of the module itself.

I should have posted this originally. He's a Bbn 3/Rgr 1/Ftr 1/Clr 1/Rog 2.

Don't ask me why he's multiclassed so much, I can't really understand the mind of a 10 year old.

Plus, he's had some really, really, REALLY good hp rolls. He has well over 100 hp with any magic or items and not raging.

I think he could do it as written, he'd have some problems, but I think he could survive to the end.

Thanks again,

Well, _anything's_ possible if you're the DM. I guess you could just go easy on him, if he's only 10. This would involve fighting with one hand tied behind your back, so to speak: not having the enemies be too coordinated, not using their best tactics, etc. Also, give him lots of opportunities to retreat and heal up, and don't fortify the dungeon for his return.

I really doubt that he could make it through. Not even with all those classes. None of them are really powerful enough to give him any help when fighting the really powerful creatures.

If the Crater Ridge Mines are played right he could easily get in over his head and not have enough resources to get himself safely out. 100 hit points doesn't really mean a whole lot... some of the inhabitants of that place can deal that much quickly.

Also, there are quite a few "save or die" traps and places in RttToEE and he will definetly need someone to drag his body out of the dungeon after a bad save.

Also, he had no high level magical firepower, so that leaves him at a disadvantage against creatures he can't get into melee with.

I'll second the motion for giving him a cohort.

I am in agreement with most of the other. This is not an adventure that is good for single players. The idea of having some cohorts is a good one if you can find any other players.

I have been running this adventurer with 7 PCs. They are just about to enter the Crater Ridge Mines and are 5-6 levels. To this point there have been 4 deaths (2 of which the bodies were not recoverable) with many near death escapes. I warned my players that this adventure was nasty.
