Agree with Joe, will be nice to see the Tools improved in September (hopefully). At the very least, it sounds as though it'll be sooner rather than later (the no news on that front from GenCon was a bit worrisome).

Wish they would stick to more pressing or important questions. What's next week? What breakfast do they eat before driving to work?

To be fair, the Monster Builder is probably the most talked about (or ranted about) item out there with the exception of the VTT -- certainly with respect to DDi anyway. Add that to the angst of not hearing anything about it at all at GenCon and people were afraid it was nearing vaporware status.

I also think the Dungeon of Dread question was fair since a lot of people probably did not bother to read enough of the reports to see why it was canned and merely saw that it was canned. Frankly, I'm also happy to see it shelved if the quality just wasn't up to snuff, some companies may have just pushed it out the door anyway.

I'll grant you that the first question was kind of a throwaway. Personally, I think its fairly obvious that they play other RPGs. It's almost a requirement. Writers read extensively. Video game developers play other video games, etc. You need to try out other products in order to keep the creative juices flowing and to keep improving on your own designs. At the same time, I don't doubt that it was a question actually submitted. Given the breadth of topics that they've covered in Rule of Three I really can't complain at this point -- plus the Monster Builder news is definitely good. Even if they don't make the September date, it seems likely it will be ready by the end of the year. (Yeah yeah, it should have been ready long ago. I agree, but at least its coming finally).

What would you rather have them do? Have them use a more pressing question and then respond with "We cannot talk about that at this time."?

The folks at WotC has learned the hard way that we are all a bunch of whiny little bastards and if they ever answer a question... we hold them to that answer like it was the Holy Grail. And if by some chance things change for them and what they thought was a valid answer at one point unfortunately has to be changed or delayed... we'll bitch and moan to the point where you'd think we were having our pets slaughtered by them. So I don't fault them for being careful not to answering ANYTHING that isn't practically guaranteed at this point.

There are a significant number of people on the WotC forums who regularly state that (paraphrased) "it is obvious that the WotC designers only play 4E and nothing else, because [RPG Game X] solved this problem X years ago".

I know. It's just I look forward to Rule-of-Three because I'm interested in what's new about DnD. I just hope that this wasn't the Rule-of-Three dedicated to DDI that we have heard about.

Here's hoping the September update to the MB actually allows one to, you know, BUILD MONSTERS. Last time we were promised that, we got... "oh, you can change the monster's level!"
