Rules Compendium Rules Changes

Another "rules clarification" that settles at least part of a debate I have seen many times:

"If you're successfully hidden with respect to another creature, that creature is flat-footed with respect to you. That creature treats you as if you were invisible [Page reference to Invisibility]."

The extra rule on the Aid Another action was originally from Complete Adventurer, and I've been using it since that book brought it up. One clarification I spotted in the RC regarding aiding someone: when you use the Aid Another action on a skill or ability check, you cannot take 10 or 20, even if the person you're aiding is.

About time they settled that. Still don't really like the flatfooted reference but there ya go. Can't win them all.

Well, it kinda gives answers to some hotly debated topics we've seen throughout the years in this forum. I am still a bit surprised folks are not interested in reading and commenting on it.
To be honest, I lost my interest after seeing the previews. They didn't give me the impression there would be many clarifications or updated rules.

After reading about these examples, I'm suddenly considerably more interested. Looks like I have to get one, after all...

Out of curiosity, does the Rules Compendium state that opponents are effectively flat-footed with respect to invisible creatures as well, or are they still just denied Dex bonus?

In other words, if an invisible creature wishes to render his opponent flat-footed, does he need to hide in addition to being invisible?

Also, if a successfully-hiding creature is considered invisible, does he get the +20/+40 bonus to Hide checks, making it harder for the opponent to find him by taking a move action to make another Spot check to notice something she previously missed?

No mention of flat footed under invisibility, just +2 on attack roles and denial of dex bonus.

I don't know. I think there is a difference between "opponent treats you as if you were invisible" and "you gain all benefits of being invisible"

Hmm. So any abilities that are only triggered against a flat-footed opponent work if you're hiding, but not if you're just invisible...

Sure. But is there a difference between "You get a +20 bonus to Hide checks" and "Your opponent treats you as though you get a +20 bonus to Hide checks", from the opponent's point of view?

Hyp you, of all people, should be buying this book.

We could use someone who knows the rules REALLY well to read this book and be able to point out the changes and clarifications that are important.

I mean, we have what, eight months until 4e? Nobody is much interested in a ton of new rules and clarifications for 3.5 now?

I wasn't until this thread. I figured the RC was just a compendium. I know 3e rules pretty good (yep even got grapple down). So I didn't think there was much to bother with.

But those illumination rules are great to know, I've been wanting those since 3e came out.
