Rules Cyclopedia Of Basic D&D Now In Print

My all-time favorite D&D book ever. I love this thing. I got it new when it first came out and have had a few copies over the years as others were lost or wore out.

How good is the binding on these POD books? Just pages glued in or is there a strong binding that you can lay flat?

I wanted to find a video about it, note he says dmsguild has taken pod things down and says to go get it in case they take this down. I didn’t know they have taken recent pod items down, do they do it a lot?

Not likely. It’ll be a supplement to, at least. As much as I love this book, the system still uses To-Hit charts. Turns me off every time, and so go straight to all the wonderful OSRs instead.

The writeup neglects to mention Aaron Allston's contribution to the Rules Cyclopedia (which is why the Immortal rules weren't included in it)...

The 1991 "Black Box" set was the second D&D product I ever bought (the first being the AD&D Monster Manual, which I got at my Catholic school's annual book sale).

My first games was with AD&D 2nd ed, so this is "before my time". I do have a question:

I know that the Cyclopedia is a reorg of BECMI (and that the I, ie immortal rules, aren't there)... but can someone explain to me the differences between BX and BECMI? Some people seem to be making a big deal out of that, but I haven't been able to find out what the big distinction is...

This is a good thing. However, I have to say that a print on demand version based on a scanned copy of the original book is hardly "a perfect collectors' item". But nevertheless, I totally support these moves; I'm spending more and more time using early D&D material over anything published recently.
