Rules on Prot from Evil

The Scene is set. A 20th level Wraith type creature (which is not summoned) summons 4 other undead wraith type creatures. They attack a character who has a protection from evil up. The 4 greater wraiths cannot get to him. Can the said character which the protection from evil up attack the 20th level wraith or not without the 4 greater wraiths attacking him. the 4 greater wraiths and the 20th level wraith are all Evil.

As I understand the spell, there's nothing about attacking the Boss Wraith that would directly allow the summoned wraiths to attack. However, the summoned wraiths could keep themselves interposed between Boss Wraith and Mr. Protection, which would make it awfully hard for Mr. Protection to get to Boss Wraith without attacking the summoned wraiths. Mr. Protection also couldn't use his Protection from Evil in order to just walk through the summoned wraiths, as that would fall under "trying to force the barrier" and thus break the protection (with regard to those specific wraiths).
