Ruling on Shifter forms...

MotW gives Shifters the ability to change into many different forms, but doesn't give guidlines on how to handle some of the more difficult ones.

1) How should an Oozes Split ability be handled? Are each piece under the Shifters control? Are they separate entities or do they revert to pieces of the Shifters normal equipment?

2) What happens when the Shifter wants to change to a different form when he's in seveal pieces after using an Oozes Split ability?

3) What happens when an extra limb is severed? Is the Shifters true form affected? (Roper strand, 1 of 6 Maralith arms, Hydra head)

4) Ability damage. If a Shifter changes into an Ogre, then looses 4 temp Strength. Does the shifter have 4 less Str when he changes into a Troll? Wildshape states that it wouldn't heal, but when he changes he'd become an average troll and have an average Trolls Str.

1) I say they are all in control of the Shifter as they are all a part of him

2) All the pieces are a part of him, so they all need to come together for him to shift into anything else.

3) You lose a limb in one form, you've lost something in all forms. Might not be a limb, but it would be a nasty gut wound or something else like that.

4) Ability damage applies in all forms.

I'm going to have to disagree with Crothian on a couple of things:

1- I would say any "procreative ability" Slaad implating eggs, or ooze splitting, etc. The shifter loses control over the "spawn" such that as long as he's an ooze it's fine, but the minute he changes into his base form he's surrounded by some mindless agressive oozes, same with the slaad. Now if for whatever reason this doesn't work (perhaps he's evil and this is right up his "abuse alley") you could just disallow those abilites.

2- See Above.

3- The Hit point damage remains, and there is probably a visable wound, but unless the base form has multiple limbs I don't see where it would translate.

4- Agree with Crothian
