D&D 5E Run DnDBeyond “encounters” inside the Maps vtt!

OK despite a warning maps works on phones and tablets.. It’s a little awkward but usable. Hmmmm?

Yes, although I think that's an issue with most VTTs. It also just depends on how much you want to depend on automation, for example I use encounters but I track initiative manually because I find it easier. They also didn't indicate whether or not the game log shows dice rolls or not in the maps view like they do if I'm using just encounters.

As far as maps and stuff, you can import any map you want and scaling is actually handled fairly well. Simpler than Roll20 when I tried it anyway.

I've been waiting for this since I switched over to Maps from Roll20! It wasn't terrible switching between tabs, but this is going to be much better. Spent 10 minutes playing around with it, and while there are def some rough edges around the UX (I need to be able to add conditions effecting monsters, for example), overall, it's easy and intuitive.

Strong agree on the ease and intuitive interface. This is the excuse I need to shift my online games there. I also had a lot of success running Shadowdark on it. The import function made uploading and scaling maps a snap.
do you use 5e rules, or the rules you are working on (esp monsters and sublasses)?

I've not tried maps yet, is stuff auto calculated, like attacks succeeding or not? damage application?

My lawyer made it clear that I should not upload my work in progress to D&D Beyond, so I'm not 100% on where the automation is these days. We used the virtual dice with paper or Word/PDF character sheets for Shadowdark.

I'm 90% sure that players can run their D&D Beyond character sheets through the Maps interface. I'm going to set up tomorrow's Greyhawk game in Maps, so I'll report back with how it goes. Where using off the shelf characters in that one to get a grip on the new rules (though I'm still using custom monsters that I track in Excel).

Ok, just looked at this. I still can't see the monster sheets from maps? Is that right? I can't really use maps to run the monsters? Or am I missing something obvious?

Looks like all they show is HP and AC. So ... still flipping back and forth unless you have enough screen space to multiple screens open.
