Running and AoO

Okie Doke maybe i am reading the PHB incorrectly and im not understanding how an AoO works, but do you not provoke an AoO only if you are in a threatened square? Or can it be provoked if you are say at least 50' away?

scenerio:
player 1-spends a full round action running @ 4x base to a square 50' from player 2.

player 2-AoO because of run?

If player1 runs through any threatened squares of player2, then yes, if not, no.

If you move/perform actions outside of squares that any opponent threatens you never provoke AoO because there is nobody to provoke one from in the first place.

If at any point during the run action he was in a threatened square, he can get attacked. If he starts (or stops) running in a space where he's threatened by an enemy, he provokes an AoO.

D'oh!?

Damn you all for being right! j/k thanks alot for the input i wasnt sure then i found out he had a 10' reach with his weapon so thats where some of the confusion took place.

Also i have another quick question: the -4 penalty with the many shot feat is that because of the melee penalty from being 30' so if you took precise shot it would negate it or is there another reason for the -4 penalty?

Nope. The -4 is because you have multiple arrows on your bowstring. It's much more difficult to fire two arrows than one.

(I actually tried to do it at the Renaissance fair last year...it's tough! I suppose that's why I'm not a hero...)

AWW youll always be a hero in my book :o

Moving into a threatened square does not provoke an attack of opportunity, only moving out of a threatened square does (plus all the other stuff like spellcasting, or pulling something out of a bag).

Unless you are running into that threatened square... ;)
