That action takes place in both the square you are leaving, and the square you are entering.

Great, we had this debate just the other week, and this was the conclusion that we came to as well.
The only slight thing that seems a bit weird about it is in chase situations, both the chaser and the chasee will get AOOs on each other as they run along, albeit without their DEX bonus.
e.g. A chasing B, as B leaves A's area running, A gets AOO on him. B runs x4, then A follows. As A enters B's threat range, B gets AOO on A for running.
Unless I've missed some other subtlety...
