D&D 5E Running away...

RAW states this: "you can move through a hostile creature's space only if the creature is at least two sizes larger or smaller than you. Remember that another creature’s space is difficult terrain for you... you can’t willingly end your move in its space."

Have you ever blocked a cat from getting past you? I have, but it's not easy.

The larger creature can Ready an Action to Shove a small critter which tries to run into and through its location. If the Shove succeeds, then the larger creature shoves the smaller creature, stopping its movement and pushing it back out of the larger creature's square(s). Alternatively, the larger creature can Ready an Action to attack; but if the smaller creature survives the attack (and is not disabled, restrained, etc.) then it can keep going.

That more or less matches my experience, trying to block a corridor so that a cat could not get past me. If I did anything other than focus my efforts on blocking the cat, then it would have 100% success in moving through my square, as if I were difficult terrain.

Is there really no way to get past an equal sized opponent in 5e through tumble or anything like that? I'm basically looking for the equivalent of the "tumble through enemy" application of acrobatics in 3.5e/pathfinder.
As others have said, this is an optional rule on page 272 of the DMG. As with marking, though, these rules are entirely optional and only exist if you want some sort of "semi-official" way to add more rules to the game. Also as with marking, this primarily exists to add in features that had been trimmed away from previous editions.

D&D 5E isn't really the sort of game where you're supposed to mark or tumble past the enemy, but if you want it to be that kind of game, then here's how you do it.

So glad there is no tumble. I find it stupid that you can't block a door. I makes it so combat is more real and dangerous that everyone cant just auto roll a skill to get out.

As mentioned there are lower level spells now that work. You can always house rule too.

Shove them out of the way (Str check), fake them out and run past them(Cha check), Dodge past them(Dex check).

I would give you disadvantage for this unless the enemy was caught unaware.

If you get surrounded then yes things are pretty bad. At that point if your opponents are intelligent then seeking surrender terms is an option, if they are unintelligent/ just want to eat you then fight to the last and hope for the best.
