S&F: Circle Kick

Quez The Lame

First Post
Got a question about the feat Circle Kick from Sword & Fist:

The feat allows a second attack roll against a different opponent, if you hit with an enemy with an unarmed attack (no second attack against the same target). This requires the full attack action.

So, if i got more than one attack (high bab, Flurry of Blows, etc) and full attack to use them all, do i get circle kicks for each hit ?

Or do do i have to take full attack, make only one attack roll, and get only one second attack roll if i hit ?

thanks, quez

Are you sure about that? That's just lame. I mean, under what circumstances is it worth taking? A free extra attack, but only if my first attack hits, and only if I sacrifice all my other attacks. I can see how at low levels it's valuable because it can be more powerful than Flurry of Blows. As soon as the character gets an iterative attack it's no longer useful except in situations where sacrificing the -2 to Flurry of Blows is a bad idea. And in that case, I might as well take Weapon Focus: Unarmed and get a +1 to all attacks all the time.

It seems to me that to make the feat have a reasonable but not overpowered interpretation would be to use it like this:

When you unarmedly strike an opponent in melee, you may immediately make an extra melee attack against another opponent. This attack must be unarmed, and uses the same base attack bonus as the previous successful attack. This ability is only useable during and once per the Full Attack action.

I alowed one of my players to string it so as long as they continued hitting. I allowed him to attack a different opponent again and again untill he missed or there where no opponents in his threatened area he had not hit. Only one attack per opponent kind of like Whirlwind but if you miss it stops.

I know this is a house rule but I thought it worked well so I wanted to share it.

Hmm. Like Cleave without the need to kill the opponents? ;)

Yeah, if you could only Cleave with a Full Attack Action. Cleave is worthwhile because you get it any time you drop an opponent. Even from an attack of opportunity, despite some superstitions to the contrary.

OA contains a feat that appears to be the update of this. Round-about kick I believe. Basically on a critical you gain an additional attack as well as the bonus damage. Kinda nice but possibly broken if you could increase the threat range a bit...

RE: OA's Roundabout Kick

Nah, not broken, even if you could increase the unarmed attack's threat range. But unlike Cleave, you do not need to slay the first opponent to get an extra attack.

Personally, I limit the extra unarmed attack to one per successful Threat (scoring a Threat on extra unarmed attack rolls do not count).
