Round 2 9:29:18

Eusebius only manages one glancing blow to his enemy, before she has closed more, and lashes out with her chain. She makes no effort to trip or disarm, only kill.

Again, her whirling chain tears into the monk.

Round 3:
Eusebius again uses a flurry of kicks and punchs, but doesn't seem to be giving as good as he gets, hitting only once. The queen's relentless retaliation is getting the better of him.

Round 4 9:29:30...want to try something different?

HP status:
Eusebius: 22/44
Ogrin 51
Razh 70
Queen -14

Spells and effects:
Rhinoseros exists with Ogrin until 9:35 am
Aid on Eusebius until 9:32 (gives +1 attack & +11 HPs)
Enlarge person on Eusebius until 9:35 (+2 str, -2 Dex, large sized -1 attack & AC)
Mage armor on Beamer & Eusebius (expires?)
Haste on Eusebius, Ogrin, Beamer, cleric and Rhino until 9:30:06 (gives +1 attack, AC & extra attack. + Reflex & move)

OOC: Damn, she's tough - and IC's stacking the odds against E. :(

It sounds from your description as if she's moved to 10 feet and stopped there. If that's right, E will fall back 5 feet (outside her reach) and try to disarm her. Normally that would attract an AoO but since he's too far away, that won't happen.

The disarm check is at +14: here's the result.

On the other hand, the ::grandma filter engaged:: dice really don't like me! :(:(:(

Eusebius gets an extra attack each round due to the haste spell, & he didn't take it in round 3. Feel free to catch up on that one...

Round 4 9:29:30

Eusebius steps East 5 feet, partially leaving the square where he started. He flips his chain at the queen's feet, but it merely clatters on the floor.

The queen steps forward to continue her assault, her eyes gleaming with evil triumph. As she steps in, though, she opens herself up to another strike from the good cleric.

Eusebius strikes hard, making her pay for her advance. Doubt flickers in her eyes, as her own chain is unable to find purchase on the large white bishop.

Round 5 (trying that again?)

HP status:
Eusebius: 22/44
Ogrin 51
Razh 70
Queen -24

Spells and effects:
Rhinoseros exists with Ogrin until 9:35 am
Aid on Eusebius until 9:32 (gives +1 attack & +11 HPs)
Enlarge person on Eusebius until 9:35 (+2 str, -2 Dex, large sized -1 attack & AC)
Mage armor on Beamer & Eusebius (expires?)
Haste on Eusebius, Ogrin, Beamer, cleric and Rhino until 9:30:06 (gives +1 attack, AC & extra attack. + Reflex & move)

Eusebius is encouraged by the last exchange of blows. He decides to try to pull the queen's legs out from under her. The chain snakes out to wrap around her ankles, and he gives a mighty heave.

[sblock=OOC]Scythe of Seto: Chess Game; Trip attempt against queen; melee touch attack & Str check (1d20+8=12, 1d20+6=22)

If that touch attack somehow works, assuming he wins the Str check, he'll follow up with another attack with the chain at +12. If not, he'll try again on his iterative attack. If she wins the Str check and attempts to trip him, he'll go with another opposed Str check.

Basically, get her down and pummel her hard!

By the way, his flurry is normally two strikes, so I don't think he missed out on an attack in round #3.

Ah, but in round #4 he should have taken another attack, so I'll just roll that now.

Scythe of Seto: Chess Game; 2nd attack against queen in rnd #4; melee attack c. spiked chain (1d20+8=22, 2d6+4=11)[/sblock]

Round 4 (con't)
Eusebius gets another smach in with his chain to good effect.

Round 5: 09:29:36
Eusebius steps back again. He is now directly behind Beamer. He whips his chain at the Queen's legs again, but she easily leaps over it. Her light armor gives her plenty of room to use her speed.

[Eusebius should have an extra attack again round 5 due to his speed I think you could do two trip attempts. I'll go ahead & roll for you.]

The hasted cleric is fast enough to sweep the chain back, and catches her ankles just as she lands, and takes her down!

She immediately pushes to her feet, which gives the hasted monk another shot, but she dodges that. She closes then, but doesn't have time to attack before the monk. She underestimbates his reflexes and gives him another shot. Eusebius dishes out another solid hit, but the Queen is now directly in front of him (5 feet).

Eusebius attacks with another flurry of blows. On the first blow he attempts to stun the black queen, counting on the force of his blow to immobilize her and make her drop her chain. Unfortunately he strikes as if he's a novice on his first day's training!

[sblock=OOC] After a very hard night's drinking!! With his head in a bucket!![/sblock]

Round 6 09:29:42

Eusebius abandons his slow retreat, as the queen as now reached him. Face to face the pummel each other, or try to.

Eusebius misses badly, but does manage to block the barbed chains of the queen with his own.

Round 7 09:29:48

Finally Eusebius connects. He cathes the queen in the shoulder with his first blow, staggering her. She manages to block the second, but his third catches her in the head. She is knocked backwards to the floor. She pushes up to her elbows, but her eyes are closed, and she sinks back, unconscious.

This seems to be defeat enough. Eusebius can still see her chest rising and fallinga she fades from view. In her place, a small marble queen.

The Black King sits dispassionately as his most powerful piece is destroyed. He then waits several minutes, during which time the aid and the haste spells expire. He then motions for the dead gnoll behind him to attack the unicorn.

The skeleton advances, though it can't actually reach the magical equine. The unicorn has no interest in a draw, however, and it leaps at the undead, kicking forward with hoof and horn. It quickly overwhelms the undead, smashing it to pieces. It neighs and rears up, slashing at the air with its paws. Beamer knows it wants a shot at the black king.

Beamer watches nervously, wincing each time the Queen's chain tears into Beamer's friend. He grows worried as move of Eusebius blood stains the floor, but cheers as the monk lashes out with his chain and a series of vicious kicks that send the Queen to the deck. "Well fought, my friend! Victory is in hand. I can feel it. Take a rest, noble Eusebius. You have earned it."

Beamer also compliments the unicorn on its victory. "Hah, the skeleton was hardly even a warm up for such a mighty equine as you. I see you want to test your might against the king. Well, you have your chance! May your holy horn pierce his dark heart," Beamer exclaims pointing at his black counterpart.

OOC:
Spells remaining: 6/5/6/3
Note: Enlarge person was cast from a scroll at caster level 1 so Eusebius is back to medium size.

Tactics:
Unicorn begins as far from the king as possible so it can charge if it wins initiative.
Round 1: Charge (double damage on horn, I think?) king if the unicorn wins initiative, otherwise full attack with horn and hooves.
Round 2: Continue full attacks, using 5 foot steps to stay close to the king if he tries to get away.

I was going to type of something about having the unicorn use its healing powers if it gets close to death, but the king's attacks are probably too powerful for that to be an effective tactic.

Also, when I get home from work, I will check if the unicorn has any buffing abilities it should use before the battle starts, but I don't think it does.

Eusebius catches his breath for a moment. He winces as he bends over to pick up the little marble queen, then holds it high in triumph before tucking it in a pocket and turning to bow to his King.
