S3: The Scythe of Seto (Bront Judging)[Completed]

09:34:34

Rasereit positions himself on the edge of his square. The skeletal gnoll looks at him, but makes no attempt to change its position. Thus upon Beamer's command, Razh needs only step 5 feet to engage first, smashing it to pieces.

Razh picks up his new black pawn piece, and takes his place threatening the King again.

The king turns slowly to face his pursuer. He pulls apart his rope, revealing a long chain in each hand. The minotaur belt chain lies at his feet. He jerks his head at his last powerful piece, and the reddish scorpion slides over to threaten Beamer. The Rhino in Ogrin's square disapears.

Beamer steps to the edge of his square near Ogrin. He says quietly, "Could I have the sack back, in case Rasereit should fall? I could use the help fighting that scorpion thing." He then calls out, "Rasereit, are you ready?"

"Magic weapons don't seem to work 'gainst lord chain over there. That unicorn's horn's is as magical as it gets.

Remember those rat-men we fought, Razh? Silver would've made short work of them. Perhaps that'll work against this fella too. Don't remember if you silvered one of your blades, but I have a short sword to lend if ye need it. Might just be like a dagger in your hands, though. I might be able to slide it over to your square if we're lucky..."

I just noticed a post Rae made in the general discussion thread. He's in Japan touring with his band or something & won't be posting for awhile. I think he said he'd be back on board early July, at least some. I'm inclined to wait for him, as I'm pretty backed up myself, and this is an important battle he's going into. I do appologize for the delays. I'd long wanted to do a 'chess battle' & decided to go for it, even though I knew it would be prone to delays. In any case, the next segment of this adventure will be very different, and we're almost there!

OOC: Not exactly with a band. Touring in the sense of traveling, sightseeing, etc. I thought I had posted in all of my threads, but apparently I missed this one (odd, because I was rather excited about this turn of events).

Anyway, I'm not quite back up to speed, but things have slowed down a bit and I should be able to catch up soon. I'm sorry to have delayed things so significantly.

Rasereit shrugs at Ogrin. "That li'l thing? Mate, even if it cut through 'im like butter, these two 'ands work better with an axe in 'em." (With Power Attack, the waraxe wielded two-handed should overcome as much DR as the small sword would, and has the potential for more damage overall.) He loosens his shield and takes his waraxe in both hands.

He crouches in a battle stance, bringing his center of gravity even lower, and eyes the king. "Ah've run out o' witty things t'say t'ye, so let's just end this now, eh?" Without another word, Rasereit's eyes go red, his breathing quickens, and his face looks like a furnace just about to explode. Even so, he waits.

Tactics:
Rage!

Since the king has 10' reach with his chains, I think the best first round action (assuming Razh gets the init) is to ready an attack for the king to approach, then step in 5' and engage.

The king obviously has DR, so two-handed axe w/ power attack is the best way to go, I think. 3 PAtk would overcome DR:5 (-3 atk, +6 dmg) so let's go with that.

Stats:
Raging Razh:
HP 82/84
AC 18 (-2 rage and no shield)

Std. Atk: waraxe +11 melee (+12normal -3patk +2rage) 1d10+14 (+5normal +6patk +3rage)

Full Atk: waraxe +11/+6 melee 1d10+14

Checkmate

No quarter is asked or given, as the climatic battle ensues. The King's face becomes clear. It is Beamer's face. And it bears a look of horror. Razh stomach turns, but he's too experienced to let it catch him off guard.

Razh gets a slight edge off the bat, and, when the King steps forward with chains, manages to step in and attack. He hits, hard with his first blow, though his second goes wide. His axe bites deeply, though he's immediately aware that it isn't fully effective against the foe.

The King's chains fly furiously. He wields one in each hand, plus one more, the minotaur's belt, also attacks, though it has no wielder. The king's accuracy is good, but Razh's armor and dwarven toughness keep him alive despite the pummeling.

The battle rages for only about 30 seconds, with red and black blood flying. And then there is a victor. The dwarf's axe cuts deeply, severing the spine of the Black King. The King hits the floor, on his back. Beamer's face fades, to be replaced, briefly, by another face, that of a man, old, wise and kind. The man winks at Rasereit, then dissapears. The battle is over.

The three remaining viking warriors and the elven cleric cheer, and the mental compulsion to stay in one's square is gone. The black pieces fade from the board, and the white pieces move in to congratulate Razh, first then bow to Beamer, before dissapearing themselves.

As Razh comes out of rage, he realizes that the elven bishop has cured his wounds before dissapearing.

Razh is able to pick up a final small black chesspiece.

I'll post again soon. Feel free to speak, but something else happens soon. Give me a chance to make another post...

Panting from exertion, Rasereit jumps and shouts when the black king winks. "Oi, d'ye see that? 'E winked! What's that s'posed t'mean, eh? Ye think that was easy?!" As he calms down, Razh starts to smile a bit. "Ah guess it was pretty fun." He snatches up the last black piece and throws a wink to Ogrin. "That's from the king, mate. All in a day's work, eh?" He stands and enjoys the praise he receives from the remaining white pieces.

"Is it safe to move, or is this board still dangerous after the game is over?" Banion asks.

ooc: My account is now working again, though as my piece was not moved at all during the game it seems likely I wasn't messing up the game with my technical problems, thank goodness.
