Sacred Prostitute preview from BoEF

Greetings,

I just went to see the Sacred Prostitute ( http://www.valarproject.com/ ) preview of the Book of Erotic Fantasy.

While I can't really see players playing one, it can be used to add color to a setting.

As for other previews on the site, there's a lot of suff in there that I could see IMC. Some of it though, does not interest me. Not necessarily the stuff that is too obscene, but just from a mechanics point of view.

That's how I see this book. Like Unearthed Arcana, a book with many options, from which you use the bits that you like.

Yeah.. the naughty bits.

;)

:D

But yes... I'll be buying the book, but like you said, I'm not sure how much will see use.... We'll see..

Frankly, it seems overpowered -- I can imagine any Sorcerer or Wizard taking one as a Cohort just to get back spell slots. That particular ability should be restricted to a certain number of times per day.

I like the "Kiss of Life" spell, though -- more Sorcerer spells are good things!

I sure hope it's not more than once per day. Anyways, I can't see everyone NOT house-ruling it so.

I like the feats that give you a plushtwo (or four, or six) to one stat after intercourse. Gives a nice edge to sex as a rejuvenator, self-esteem, focusor thingy.

Hmmm....First it was a S&M prestige class, now a prostitute prestige class. What's next, a prestige class that specializes in watersports? If this is the future of D&D, I want no part in it!

Just a quick note, shadow - the sacred prostitute has been done in other d20 products, most recently the Qedeshot from the Testament Setting by no less than Green Ronin. I don't claim that the two PrC's have the same... attention to detail, but BoEF is not breaking new ground just by including one.

I was wondering if anyone was going to mention that.

Perhaps not, but Valar's product does have a very strong focus on sex. By marketing the BoEF as an adult roleplaying product AND by using "adult" as a euphemism for "sexually explicit" Valar invites this sort of criticism. In my opinion this is the kind of silliness that gives all of us a bad name. For a product to mention sexuality is one thing; to give class features like "aura of sexual ease" strikes me as childish.

But that's just my two cents.

It is a book about sex and it's derivatives.

It has pictures (NOT drawings) of naked female breasts.

It would be unthinkable to NOT label it as mature.

Not all gaming groups will benefit from it. It fills a very thight niche of RPG's, but that niche EXISTS. It is the first time in D&D history that such an effort has been made, and my gaming group will benefit from it.
