Being a long time Gundam fan, I've got to comment.

IGNORE THE AMERICAN SD GUNDAM CRAP! Its NOT the original Japanesse SD Gundam. Its some American made piece of junk that is just...painful. The REAL SD Gundam was made back in the mid-late 80s, and is composed of characters from all the series up to that point. It would NEVER make it in America because of the tons of cultural jokes and the amount of detail oriented Gundam jokes.

So don't worry, you AREN'T seeing SD Gundam. You're seeing something painful and evil. The real SD Gundam is so hilariously funny I was rolling on the floor...literally. Its worth hunting down, though its VERY hard to find these days...
This is some computer animated kiddie show that os so childish it makes Pokemon look like Law and Order. It may get better but the one episode I saw was enough for me. I heard that SD Gundam was funny, this was just sad, so I have no problem believing there is a Real SD Gundam out there.

Yep, you saw the American one...just pain. The original SD Gundam is all normal animation, nothing special about it. The episodes are so hilarious its definatly WORTH trying to find. Watching Amuro, Camille(from Z Gundam), and Judou(from ZZ Gundam) go through a D&D style episode was just too great.

Only thing, they're short episodes. Around 10-15 minutes long at most. Great fun though.

Chatter, chatter, Talk Talk: Contrary to popular belief, Americans can handle moments where no one talks. The popularity of Samurai Jack should have driven that point home. But, in classic bad translation fashion, we have non-stop yattering. Someone has to be saying something, no matter how inane, at ALL times.

Too damn true.

The problem isn't that it was dubbed...although it was poorly voice-acted. I consider some dubs to be just fine, and I actually prefer the US cast for Big O

It annoys me to no end when a US company uses bargain basement dub actors to save a buck. Urusei Yatsura's upcoming dub of movie 1 'only you' has me very worried due to the main charaters' VA's lack of experience.

ANN: Previously, all your dubs have been through Coastal Studios. Who are you working with this time?

SC: We'll be working with a company called SWIRL. While Coastal does a great job, we knew that we needed a different base of voice actors, and Swirl met that constraint.

ANN: How difficult was casting? The wide range of tone in UY, from crazy slapstick to solemn drama, makes the characters tricky to portray. What qualities were you looking for in your actors?

SC: Wow - very tough! The Japanese VAs not only did a great job acting, but they were so well cast that it set the bar pretty high. So we decided early on that we needed the English VAs to have 2 key attributes. First, be relatively unknown. The reason we wanted 'unknowns' is to help give this dub its own identity. We wanted the viewer to get absorbed by the dub. This can't be done when you get sidetracked due to recognizing a VA's voice. Second, be willing to accept a great deal of suggestions and criticisms. Urusei Yatsura's characters have such a wide range of emotions, attitudes and styles, that the VAs really needed to be directed. Both Steve and Shannon have been great about taking direction.
