Salvatore to write format for FR TV Series

At least in the D&D Movie, the Director played D&D as a kid, and had consultants that were familiar with it. (Dave Arneson and Grant Boucher, anyone?)

Maybe, but look what good it did.... sorry I didn't like the move, an alright fantasy flick, but it wasn't Dungeons & Dragons (Still bought it on DVD though.. ;) )

It will SUCK. Trust me.

Come on. It's patently obvious that the FR TV series is going to suck. Not being a Salvatore fan, I don't see his involvement as a plus, though perhaps not as bad as "some corporate schill" doing a standard Hollywood hackjob on it. However, I'm sure that any good Salvatore attempts to do will be soundly flushed by the Fireworks executives, who want another MUTANT X, not high art.

The fact of the matter is Fireworks is incapable of doing this series justice. It will be just another lame-o Robin Hood, Beastmaster, Hercules, Xena type showcase for musclebound idiots and no-talent bimbos with big cleavage prancing around swinging plastic swords at each other, with lame CGI effects liberally sprinkled in. It will have none of the seriousness or attention to detail of LoTR, and will be more akin to the wretched D&D movie than anything. It will suck, and to presume otherwise is just begging for a colossal let-down.

Speculation on this series ability to entertain or have any kind of longevity is pointless. The answer is: It will suck and it will flop. It will do nothing to bring more people to the game, and will likely hurt the franchise. WoTC merely did this deal for the moo-lah, not because they trusted Fireworks to do a good job with it. That is their corporate perogative, but it certainly leaves a bad taste in my mouth from a creative standpoint.

Course, it'll only last for one season. Then Optus and Austar will yoink it from free to air, put it on a decent hour and charge fifty bucks a month to watch.

Not that I'm bitter about them doing that to the wrestling at all :)

I was a huge WW fan back when they had their series butchered by Spelling. Or rather, when I and everyone who already either played the game, or had heard of it and decided not to play thought the series butchered it. Friends of mine who hadn't played thought it kicked much ass, though, and I met players who came on because of it.

So will we pull in many new roleplayers, or drama/theatre people into the FR? Not bloody likely, but the odds of those people not knowing about D&D/FR and already having a strong opinion there is pretty slim. Meanwhile, people who like the CRPG style game or who just think that models with big swords and one liners are cool will at least look at the FR game, and probably dump at least the cost of a PHB on it.

I mean, if WOTC/Hasbro/whoever had a chance to make a truly brilliant FR series, I'd slap them for chosing this, but as is it's free advertising, and I doubt FR would be looked at by people interested in an epic anyways.
