Thanks for the detailed input everyone. To be clear, this isn't the exact model I would use in a normal campaign. It's a bit too much of a railroad for what I usually run. Then again, I also don't run skirmish combat games. This is just a session for us to give the rules a try, both combat and skill-based.
I'll follow the advice here about not forcing the skill rolls, at least not at the start. But let's make no mistake: the whole reason I have this backdrop is to utilize the skill system based on we've seen presented. If for nothing else, I need the experience behind the screen in adjudicating this kind of situation.
Plus it was fun in the playtest I was involved in. If I can put my own spin on it, all the better.
