Might as well hijack this for the local San Diegians :)

Game Empire v Game Towne.

I would not realy say one is better then the other. But they are two different game stores. I am gald I have both, because between the two, I can usualy browse what I want. If I had to state the difference between the two, is that Game Empire focuses on the "younger" gamer, and Game Towne focuses on the Grognards.

When I first moved out, there was also Dwarf Mountain, that was sort of the "discount/OOP" place. You would always find something interesting at Dwarf Mountain.

I appreciate all the information. Looks like Game Towne is only 15 minutes or so by trolley from my hotel. Plus, I'm a "Grognard" so that's where I'll have to go. Thanks for the info.

For Completeness Sake

The bus that gets closest to Game Empire is the number 25. But, it can be a bit of a ride. The fastest way really is to take the number 20 downtown, then transfer to the 25 at the Clairemont Blvd stop. Ask the driver for details.

But, you do have to pay a higher fare for the 20, which is the one downside.

Now, it is a bit of a walk from the trolley to Game Towne. The 5 bus from downtown will get you closer -within a block- but it does take longer to get there.

However you get to where you want to go, you will pass through some interesting neighborhoods.

Ah, I have many good memories of Game Towne and Old Town when I lived In San Diego many moons ago. Old Town is, by far, my favorite place in San Diego.

Here's a site about all the different attractions:

http://www.oldtownsandiego.org/

And you have to check out the Whaley House:

http://gothere.com/sandiego/Ghosts/Whaley/default.htm

"San Diego's Whaley House is listed by the United States Department of Commerce as an authentic haunted house."

I think it was El Fandango's that had the excellent margaritas. I wonder if that hispanic lady still sells the tortillas on the street corner?

I went to Game Towne. What a great store! Organized, neat, clean. They had just about everything you could ask for (though they didn't have a copy of Critical Hits: Torn Asunder). Gaming room looked a bit small, but better than most stores. Definitely a place I'm going to keep in mind as a good "model" for [dream]when I open my own FLGS[/dream].

Thanks to everyone who suggested it. And for the directions. Couldn't have been easier to find!
