Cantankerous Old Coot

who you calling cantankerous?

so this is a remake of WSG for the desert.

i guess the next line will be a remake of the GHA hardback. they already redid OA and sold the rights. as well as the DL (again sold the rights). and the FRA was redone twice now.

You're the Old Coot?

Funny, I thought you were the Curmudgeon. You'll have to wait for the Expanded Florida Handbook: Retirement Castles for that PrC to come out.

Heh heh. :)

But really, that 110 degrees Farenheit isn't so bad... after all, it's only dry heat. :) Just wait till the swamp environ book "South Carolina" comes out and the temp stays at a lovely 85 degrees, with 95% humidity! Can't wait for PrCs like, Porch Sitter, Cantankerous Old Coot, Good 'ol Boy, and Bootlegger to finally hit my gaming table! Sweet!

LOL - This makes my day. :D

Darrin - in not so hot northern Indiana

I prefer to take a "It must be mine! Huzzah!" attitude, myself.

Buzz, Wizard's bitch

gotta catch 'em all. :heh:

i prefer Wizard's inexpensive addict myself. it makes me sound too cheap otherwise.

i'm chomping at the bit for the new dice and bags... :o

Weird, also living in Florida I don't normally consider it to be 'very hot' UNTIL it's very nearly 100 degrees outside. And when I living in Hawaii it never got hot at all, no matter what temperature it was...Of course, to be fair I start shrinking from cold at 65 degrees.:D

What part of Florida? The swampy parts (Miami/Lauderdale/Palm Beach/Naples) get hot as heck after 90F, the other parts not so much.

They might be interesting wilderness books. I will withhold judgement until I actually see them. I'm not sure how much WotC "realism" I want in a game anyway.

I live at 5000+ feet. I hike up to 11,000 feet. I live in a desert. We are in monsoon season right now and we average 1.73 in of rain in August. We will have less and 10 inches of precipitation in a year. I used to run distance, though the fastest I ever did a 10-mile was 62:35. Because of the altitude, we keep the temperature relatively low. But, temperatures in the 90's and 100's are not uncommon. Yes, it is a dry heat and that does make a big difference. :)

I used to run distance at altitude in the middle of the summer in a desert. By the Rules as Written, I must have had one heck of a Fort Save. Of course, I am a native New Mexican. I imagine somebody that lived in a lower altitude would have a bit of difficulty coming up here and easily doing the same things.

So I am not sure I want to see "realistic" or "detailed" rules. I do want ways to make PC's *think* about decisions, such as wearing heavy armor during an overland march in the middle of the day. However, I do not want that decision to be relegated to making multiple die rolls and hoping to be lucky or tough.

Fantastic to hear, Piratecat! I admit that my knowledge of game designers is scanty (apart from a few), and it's great to hear from people who know them and like their work. :)

Wolfgang Baur is "da bomb". Hilights include:
- Dark*Matter Campaign Setting
- Planes of Chaos
- Planes of Law
- Dragonlance Campaign Setting (2e boxed set)
- Alternity - Dataware

Unfortunately Microsoft stole him from Wizards as a full-time employee.

He and Monte Cook are the only RPG authors I've ever bothered writing to to commend them (Dark*Matter).

(Only a few days each year around 100F - well, 36 or 37 Celsius to me.

Cheers!

Can you do that off the top of your head? I can do the conversion if I think about it, but by guestimate I can't come closer than like 5 degress. You came within 1 (it's 37.8 degrees). I'm American and I sometimes get curious as to how our holding out on this metric thing detrimentally affects the world (though Australia was one of the more recent converts so maybe you grew up with the English system?)
