Sanguinary Deception

Cheiromancer

Adventurer
This spell helps a necromancer "come back from the dead." One of the players in my campaign is introducing a new character who (surviving an ambush) goes to the land of the dead (based on the Purgatorium supplement I got from RPG Now) and incidentally retrieves the other characters- I had misread an encounter and accidentally TPK'd the party. :(

Any thoughts or comments?

Sanguinary Deception
Necromancy [Evil]
Level: Corrupt 2
Components: V,S
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Personal
Duration: 1 hour/level (D) or special (see below)

The caster converts himself into a battery of necromantic energy, transforming wounds into energy with which he will heal himself later. While the spell is in effect the caster gains DR 2/magic, but every attack affected in this way appears to do 2 points of additional damage. For example, an attack which does 4 damage will appear to do 6 damage, but will “really” do only 2. When the caster appears to be at 0 hp or below he will be able to take only partial actions.
A caster who dies from apparent damage is to all intents and purposes dead until the spell ends. To determine whether his body is too damaged to be reanimated upon the spell’s ending, consider the corpse to have DR 5/slashing and cold resistance 10. Time spent in freezing conditions does not count toward the spell duration, nor does time spent under the influence of a gentle repose or similar preservative magic. If the body is animated, the caster dies for real.
While the caster is dead, he is vaguely aware of the passage of time, but cannot sense his surroundings. At the DMs option he may pass temporarily into the afterlife, but returns immediately to his body when the spell ends. The reanimated body will be cured of apparent damage, though real damage will remain.
Corruption Cost: 1d6 points of Charisma damage (sustained when the spell ends).

[edit] A friend told me that I've worded this in a confusing manner. Basically it gives you DR so you can more likely survive an attack. But it makes you seem to be more wounded than you are, so that when you "die" you can play possum until your attackers leave. Meanwhile your soul is floating around wherever dead souls go.[/edit]

The spell worked great last night! Kudos.

I guess if I had read the description better it would have made sense why Vincent was in the freezer.

Now seeing as it worked so well I don't want you to get any ideas and abuse this spell with your evil necromancers!

I'll just have to keep a deathwatch prepared at all times :D
