Savage Species: Perfect for Furry D&D

First Post
Bought Savage Species yesterday, and I'm still only getting familiar with the book. But I was pleasently surprised to see the Anthropomorphic Animal template in the third appendix. For a furry fan like me, this is perfect. And although I already have the link for "Furries and Fantasy", these additional rules are still great.

I've yet to master the ECL adjustment rules to create appropriate furry races, so I was wondering if anyone had any tips...

In all honesty, even considering the "Anthropomorphic Animals" section in Savage Species, I think the best way to build "furries" in the manner of RPG's like Albedo, Ironclaw, etc. is to do it yourself. Savage Species seems to lend itself to creating races with big level adjustments or that are really, well... bland (check out the web enhancement and you will see what I mean).

The theory is good - Quality X is worth +1 level.

They forgot something though - creatures can have *disadvantages* as well.

Just saw Daredevil - a great example of a great advantage (effectively Sonar) being balanced by an at times painful disadvantage.

If you want to do an all-furry world where characters are all more or less the same size (where you can 6' tall mice and 5'4" horses and so on), you're best bet is to take a look at the creature you want and just build it. Usually I compare a race to one of the PhB races and sort of tweak things from there.

For example, felines might be based roughly on elves, while a subterranean race like a badger might be based on a dwarf.
