Sounds like the class Rincewind should have! One aprentice wizard level, then Survivor well into the epic levels!

No class other than commoner can get in before 6th level, can they? All other classes have at least 1 good save, if I recall correctly.

Anyway, commoner is a NPC class. Are PC's even allowed to take levels of commoner? That seems like something a DM would have to allow specifically.

I don't understand the concern. You're worried that players will want to play a 1st-level COMMONER and switch to this class? Well, what's the problem? Such a character would have an incredibly low-level of survivability....

It's a cool class, but abusive it ain't. Without the damage reduction it would be unjusitifiably weak.

Totally agree with this. In fact, the straight fighter could just power attack for +5 damage every round, nullifying the damage reduction, and still get an iterative attack of +5/+0.

Umm I think the point of this class is being overlooked. Who here hasn't read Nodwick and wondered how the hell he lives over and over again?

Every party has Bob the Torchbearer, or Swordbearer, or Shieldmate, or the ever popular Bob the Polish Mine Detector.

This is the class for party henchmen!
