Saw A Semi Truck Explode Today

My work sent me to the other side of Charlotte (from Dillon, SC) today, and on the way back, I had just completed taking the exit off of I-40 and onto I-77 when I saw a semi sitting fairly distant in the furthest oncoming lane suddenly jerk into the emergency lane and nearly tip over doing it. Then I noticed it was on fire. Then the tractor exploded.

By the time I got up even with it, it was pretty obvious that nobody could have survived it, and even if they had, there wasn't any way to get to them, as the cab was still a roiling fireball inside and out.

Pretty thoroughly sucked all the way around. If there was a silver lining of any sort, it was that the trailer was a livestock hauler, and at least it was empty.

Wow, this must be national pyro's day or something. I saw a house burn down this afternoon about 2 pm. Fortunately, everyone escaped.

Just so folks are clear, comments such as John Q. Mayhem's are copacetic. Comments that promote one religion (or religion in general or the lack of religion) over alternatives are where we run into problems; comments that disparage a religion, or religion, or a lack of religion, are verboten. For more information, see this thread.

Okay, carry on!

We all gotta go, but I surely wouldn't want anyone to go that way. Thankfully, no one else was injured/killed as well—it could have been much worse.

Hopefully no one was seriously hurt.... Didn't hear that on any news but then I wasn't able to see the evening news nor the local (to Charlotte) radio station I listen to.

Didn't know you had a job, Torm. Congrats on getting one!

You were recently involved in a train wreck, right? :D

Man, that's horrible. Sorry to hear it, and more sorry for the poor person trapped in that.

Yeah, he actually works not too far from me, now - pretty cool, actually. :)

and in other news - what the heck did they send you to Charlotte for? They've got a storefront there, or a customer?

I'm the CIO / Chief Technician (read "ONLY technician" :D ) for a fairly large office supply company. Henry got me in touch with the guy who hired me, and after 10 months of looking, I was called, interviewed, and hired all in one day. I primarily work out of Dillon, SC, but the company has stores and customers as far away as Charleston, and the lady who does most of the company's product ordering is in Conover, NC - a little past Charlotte, actually - but is still on the company network and 3COM phone system. She changed internet service providers on her end, which meant a bit of configuration on both ends - and, she had been having some problems with her system anyway. So, house call. ;)
