Wasn't Mitra the name of a god (a male one, at that) in the Conan books? Oh well, I suppose it's no worse than having a guy named "Artemis," the name of a Greek goddess. (Actually, make that at least two guys: Artemis Entreri from the Drizz't books and Artemis Gordon from "Wild, Wild West.")
