Scanner question

I am looking to buy a new scanner. I will mostly use it for pencil drawings. My old scanner does not pick up the pencil very well. I am looking to spend about $150, less if possible.

My current scanner is 1200 X 2400 , and I guess I would want about 3200X6400. BUt I am not very good with the tech stuff.

If anybody has some good info or suggestions for me, I would appreciate it. All the information I find on the internet refers to how well it scans photos,film,negatives, but not much info for artwork, specifically black & white and pencil(gray).
