edit2: i probably won't pick them up... im a bit saturated with add-ons and i'm writing my own book right now so what time i do have away from the game i spend typing on this board :) or just goof'en off.

I understand. I just thought you might find something useful. After all, think the Scion feats are pretty neat. Plus the fighter/barbarians book will have stuff on regional fighting schools and more info on the War Colleges, But hey your call jbrowning.

scarred lands

For the purposes of this poll I am not interested in the vast majority of those players or DM's who have not played or run in this setting but only those who DO. There is a lot of good source material out there to use in our games and I'm happy that some of you who don't run/play in the SL are buying the books. that means that they will keep comming out with new stuff and I stand a better chance of comming accross what I'm looking for in my game.

I'm just trying to get a feel for how meny use this setting - none of my groupe has played there before although one of my players uses the creature collection books in another game that he DM's.

I've had mixed feelings about the Scarred Lands since day one.

I've owned the Gaz, Mithril, CC1, and I still have the new hardcover.

I just cannot bring myself to run it....for a couple of reasons

1) It cannot seem to decide whether it's a "mythology" type world ala Glorantha or a pure S&S world. It meshes a little of both but does not do either exceptionally well...it doesn't know which way to go...no direction...I suspect this is because the setting has been brought out in such an odd manner...minor works showing up before major works, etc.. Check out Earthdawn for a textbook example of meshing a "mythological" theme and pure S&S theme into a campaign world..also see # 2 below.

2) The White Wolf "feel"..I've never owned or even read too much of WW products, but I've read enough, and SL feels like WOD for D&D. On the other hand I do own and have run a campaign using Exalted (also from WW). IMO it does a much better job of integrating the "mythical" type theme and a S&S setting. I downplay some the anime stuff, and run it like Glorantha on steroids..very cool...but I digress...

3) A personal pet peeve of mine is numerous references to other SL books. In general, yes I can work around it, but it annoys me to no end. At least with the FR materials, substitutions are given in case you do not own MonF, and nothing is required besides the FRCS and the MonF...in the SL books there are references to everything... Divine and Defeated, CC1, CC2, RR, etc, etc...drives me nuts...There should be a "cutoff" of what materials are needed to fully utilize future materials (ala FR as I explained above)

All that being said, I think in many ways SL is very creative and cool...and the material is of excellent writing quality and "bang for the buck". But WW's Exalted is the more "rich" and well thought out fantasy setting.

Of course YMMV , that is just my opinion.

Which is your perogative Jeff...But I guess I don't see the problem with some referencing. After all, people wanted more spells in the FRCS, and they had to wait for Magic of Faerun. Or they wanted a Death Knight, (since there was mention back in 2nd edition) and they had to wait again. Monster of Faerun, while nice, didn't exactly cut it for a lot people that WERE already familiar with the Realms. With the Scarred Lands, no one has to feel completely left out BECAUSE it's theirs. Not WotC or even WW. I can't comment on Exalted, other than what ever floats your boat. As for the mythology stuff...well not all mythologies are clear. After all, there are numerous interpretations on modern mythologies and not everyone has a clear understanding of that. Perhaps Scarred Lands is a reflection of that. Not sure what you mean about "Anime..."
