Scarred Lands question: Ratman Mauler?

My party just got done fighting this, and it killed 1 party member, and dropped another, and the stupid thing is only a CR 3??? We've got 3 Level 3 characters (2 fighters, 1 Mage), 1 Level 2 character (Druid), and 1 Level 1 (Fighter) character, and this thing just tore through us. CR 3? Man. First it just ran up and dropped the 3rd level fighter, then went over and killed the Level 1 fighte before we finally killed it. It was completely alone. And we were lying in wait for it.

sounds like your DM got a couple of good rolls in before you killed his "pet". my last group was deathly afraid of the slithern. my current group doesn't know it yet but there are about a half a dozen of those beasties gunning for the rogue.

Nope it's a CR 3, believe me. I've checked against some other CR 3. It's pretty good but not like overpoweringly so. They are STRONG meleers but go from a ranged vantage, you can pick them apart pretty easily. That or just have the thief and fighter work in tandem.

Even so, ranged attacks might have worked better.
