[Scarred Lands] Slacerians

Tuerny

First Post
So Relics and Rituals 2 has released a bunch of information on the Slacerians and their psionic nature.

Has this revised anyone's opinion of the role of the Slacerians in the Scarred Lands?

Any thoughts on alternative Slacerian cults besides the Cult of the Shade?

Any ideas what sort of power level the average Slacerian would have to be for them to be able to kill a demigod and capture another one?

Personally, I am torn between a number of ideas on what exactly the Slacerians should be represented as.

On one hand giving them a powerful racial template makes some sense as it is the Slacerians that are feared rather than the psionic organiztion that the Slacerians just happen to dominate.

On the other hand, couldn't their power just as easily be modelled by making them all 16th to epic level psions?

Not much. Just one idea I can go with, and also makes for an interesting fight scenerio, Illithids versus Slacerians! :)

Well there could be something like a cult devoted to controlling and ordering people around, much like the Mindbender Pr-class from Tome and Blood.

Probably near epic levels. Also remember gods have NO defense against psionic powers. Meaning that some of them MIGHT have been in the mid-16 and epic level range. I also think racially speaking, they might be able to have double the normal PP a Psion would have, in certain areas.

I think just the fact that SL uses the Psionics are Different rules makes psionics vastly more powerful.

This rule, and given the relatively rare level of psionics in the campaign world, would mean that the Slarecians would have high access to magical defence, while their opponents would be unlikely to have adequate defence against psionics.

Or something.

No, it is pretty much what I anticipated.

Three words: Epic. Level. Psion.

Actually I think it is more likely that Mind Flayers would ally with the Slacerians considering this excerpt from the Creature Collection:

Mind Flayer: These creatures have only ever been encountered in the depths of Termana's subterranean reaches. The citizens of the Tepuje cities believe that these creatures are the creation of the Slarecians, for the tentacled horrors revere and worship the artifacts that they discover of the Lost Ones.

Yes. Changed it pretty significantly. IMC I'd had a psionic player early on (he died twice and quit but anyway). I'd also run with the premise that magic=psionics.
I've posted about this before so I won't go on and on about it.

IMC there was a black pelt who had been transformed/corrupted by an ancient Slarecian object and switched from being an arcane caster to a psionist. He'd been "flipping" other creatures like Ogre Magi and had a small horde of psionic creatures working for him.
Oh and the other Black Pelts were after his heretical hide. :)

I realize that I'm among the minority but I expect the -average- Slarecian isn't nessessarily above 10th or 12th level. Looking at the Slarecian Gargoyles, Dragons, etc. If they were all 20th level characters why would you have a gargoyle as a defensive object? Anything that could possibily be a threat to you wouldn't be affected by the gargoyle.
Ditto the Slarecian Dragons.... if you're already 20th level why would you take the power hit to be a Dragon? The lower age catagory ones are -extremely- powerful. But they would still get punked by a 20th level psion.
No... Its more the ability to feild an army of 10th level psions (who can work on ritual manifestations together) with the occasional individual of great power.
Think more like the Red Wizards of Thay +10 levels (so its still mostly apprentices around 10-15 with a full-member caste of 25-30 and a few remarkable CR 40ish people).

WHERE IS THIS FROM? Its not in my creature collection. SL info I don't have access to!?! (the rooms spinning and I'm seeing stars,... Air! I... can't... breath)

Its from my evil source of Scarred Lands info, i.e. http://www.livejournal.com/users/scarred_lands

Here is the rest of the relevant stuff posted so far: (all excerpts from the CC 1 Revised)

Aranea: Also called the Children of Sethris, the aranea were created from a small gathering of Sethris' cult, in the waning days of the Divine War. Crafted to be spies and assassins, the aranea performed their job admirably and have prospered in the wake of the war. They are fairly common in the dread forests of western Ghelspad, though rumor has that some have spread to the jungles of Termana, as well.

Beholder: Known as the Eyes of Mesos, the beholder-kind were created as watchers of places of power claimed by the Six-Handed One. The holy places of Mesos were often protected by these beasts, granted the ability to deny the blessings of magic to any creature with but a gaze. To this day, some places in the Scarred Lands are still protected by these aberrations, the descendents of the original monstrosities placed there to protect them.

Dinosaur: Though none know of it in this era, these massive beasts were the First Children of Kadum, the Father of Monsters. It is said that some druids of Kadum have mastered a strange form of ritual magic that transforms some reptiles into these ancient monstrosities, under their control.

Kuo-toa: Creatures known for dwelling deep in sub-oceanic caverns, the kuo-toa made up part of the populace of the Kraken Kingdoms in the past. With the Divine War, many of these creatures were corrupted by the Blood Sea and now, horribly mutated, serve the pisceans. Some few that remain uncorrupted are known to worship the Queen of the Shifting Seas in a strange amphibious aspect.
