It's been a long road for this one, but I'm happy to announce the PDF version of Scarrport: City of secrets is now on sale!

Welcome to the infamous city of Scarrport, a seedy trade port on the banks of the mighty Torberyn River where it converges with the Wellspring River. Scarrport is widely known as the gateway to the Hellfury Peaks — a mysterious region where evil festers in every crag, it’s influence spreading across the region like a raging firestorm. Unholy hell spawn roam the rugged mountain range, preying on unwary travelers and adventurers who seek to make their fortunes exploring the countless ruins dotting the land. Dangerous cults who worship dark gods riddle Scarrport’s four boroughs, using the city as a base of operations from which they spread their influence to other kingdoms.

No place for the naïve, the thieves and grifters of Scarrport lurk around every corner of this bustling city, preying on newcomers like a school of night fang eels on deep water trout. The unwary are soon parted with their money and possessions in this dangerous city or on the myriad river boats that stop in Scarrport to offload goods and pick up passengers. Yet, despite its unsavory reputation, Scarrport is a magnet for heroes in search of adventure. From the brothels, drug houses and gambling dens of the Fens to the boats traveling the Torberyn and Wellspring Rivers, or beyond the city in the demon-infested Hellfury Peaks and the tangled Dark Wood, the possibilities for adventure are boundless.

And a shout-out: Scarrport is the first third-party product to include material from our Open Gods project. Good stuff.

The gods of the Shroud are awesome. It was great to be able to use that material.

I just bought it, going through it now but I have a question. When did the gremlin stats changed? I thought they were +2 dex and +2 intelegience?

They changed after the last round of feedback.

The designers and I felt the gremlins worked better with those stats.
 

If you feel they work better with the +2 to Dex instead of Con, that's fine, you can change them, and if there is an overwhwelming hatred for those racial bonuses, I have no problems going back to the +2 Dex/+2 Int.

Hi, one of the designers in question here. There were several concerns that lead to the change. A couple of them, in no particular order were:

Intelligence/Dexterity is not a great pairing. They apply to the same defenses, AC & Reflex. Also, if you are a heavy armor user they don't even add to AC. Also, the only class that "favors" Intelligence/Dexterity is a wand wizard.

However, the lack of popularity of wand wizards and the lack of class options that favor these stats together are a second point against.

Eladrin, a core race from PHB1, already has this combo, and gets slightly better mileage out of them by virtue of the Eladrin Education feature.

Those are the points against Intelligence/Dexterity.

The points in Favor of Intelligence/Constitution are related:

No core races from PHB 1 or 2 have this combo.

Intelligence/Constitution apply to different defenses.

Constitution is independently useful to every PC in the game.

Intelligence/Constitution a better spread state-wise in that it is optimal for some Warlocks.

And, although this is just bonus teaser material for now, when Eberron releases this summer (unless they changed the Artificer from the playtest last summer) Intelligence/Constitution will be the optimal stats for at least one build of Artificer. Making Gremlins good artificers.

Also, in light of the change, Gremlins gained a racial initiative bonus. THis has the benefit of making them generally "quick" in combat and supports the idea that they are good gun-slingers.

Was just reading over some of the stat blocks, specifically for the Stone Dog Cultists.

It's not a big deal, but did you mean to switch the icons for basic attacks? The 4e MM way has the circle around the basic attack, while you have circles around the non-basic attacks.

I'm loving this book though. It's going to go great with my home-game!

Damm. I'll switch it. The font I'm using is kind of wonky that way. basic attacks and non-basic attacks are only differentiated by capitalization, so it's easy to get it wrong.
