Sci-Fi Channel's "Grendel": Quadruple Crossbow???

Well, I'm not trying to defend the movie (Grendel, that is), but the crossbow only hit twice and one of those was when it's bayonet was jammed into Mama's back.

Wait...it was a quadruple crossbow with a scope and a bayonet???

Beowulf cut Grendel's arm off with his sword in the movie, instead of ripping it off. I can see what they may have been trying to do there. "The legend overstates what happened, here is what really happened."

I have to agree about Grendal's mother, though. She should have been an ogress or some such.

Sci-Fi seems to prefer bad-looking CGI critters to an actor or actress in latex. Haven't seen this movie, but I would guess production was not some time-intensive labor of love.

That is correct!

When in doubt, I defer to Gygaxian logic. Paladins SHOULD ONLY engage in combat at close range. Anything less veers in the direction of cowardice, thus subjecting the Paladin's charisma score to diminishment, thus threatening the Paladin's "Paladin-ness".

Would you tell that to an elf paladin, given his people's worship of the bow? I guess you might....but that would be the precursor to being shot in the buttocks with a blessed arrow...

I think a paladin could honourably use a bow....though not necessarily against a swordsman with no ranged weapon.

Do you mean to say you have your Paladins who go around with ranged weapons?! I've got news for you.....your powers are GONE!

No, there is nothing in the Paladin class that says anything like this.

so again how would a movie show Beowulf ripping of Grendels arm without destroying any believability?
The movie Beowulf & Grendel portrayed it as Beowulf restraining Grendel's arm with a rope and Grendel jumping out of the second-story window; the knot held and Grendel's shoulder gave out.

It seemed a likely legend-seed for "He tore his arm off" as Achilles' death scene in Troy; Achilles pulled out all the arrows save the one in his heel, so the legend grew that it was the arrow in the heel that killed him. That was actually one of the few parts of the movie I really enjoyed.

I think it's great that there are so many MMORPGs now, there's one based around an individual bone.

Hahaha! Well, that made my evening.

A quadruple crossbow with a pair of jagged bayonets and, yes, a scope. And it pretty much shot out orbs of fire. Or something. It was ridiculous.

On the other hand, the film as a whole was...well, it was just awful.

It looked like 2 to 4 jagged blades pointing forward. I have seen pictures of crossbows in museums with blades on them. I couldn't tell if it was supposed to be a scope or a handle.

It was one of their better efforts.
