I like the point about the A plot and B plot. (Some of my favorite comic book runs have done that).

I see a lot of mysteries on BritBox where all the seasons are short and have not had trouble with that. (Most of them are one or two episode stories. Some do that with an A/B format in some seasons. A few have season long single mysteries. Some also have a lot of turnover - sometimes even in the main cast).

Do top streaming shows naturally benefit for total streaming hours if they're longer -- simply because there are more episodes? Were those by per episode numbers?

Is part of the complaint made here that some shows feel the need to stretch a story out over a bunch of episodes and it takes forever to get to the point?
