Sorry, not signing. While I do think SKR is a decent designer and writer, I don't feel that his work particularly belongs in, or meshes well with, the Realms.

In the original setting for forgotten realms there were time portals as well as gates to other worlds.

Sounds like the original Britannia (the world of Ultima, particularly in Ultima II).

Isn't the Forgotten Realms already really big? Doesn't it already have something for everyone? Why compound that with time portals and gates to other worlds... ?!

BTW: Forgotten Realms is in my top three favorite D&D gameworlds. (My other two are Birthright and Ravenloft.) So, I'm not bashing Forgotten Realms, here.

It's big in all four dimensions. The history of the Realms is every bit as well developed as the geography, and so there's a natural interest [obviously not shared by all] in exploring some of the more interesting points along the timeline.

The gates to other worlds are important to the Realms --- many races and gods are "interlopers," after all, and the inclusion of the planetouched in the new FR underlines the point that the Realms are a planar crossroads...or planar rest stop, or something.

I'm not really _feuding_ with WotC, I'm just annoyed with some of the things that have happened recently with books I worked on (I don't want to say any more because I don't want to drag this in the dirt any more than it already has) ... and I have no problems whatsoever with the web team, as they've been (and continue to be) totally great.

However, my annoyance did carry over into the discussion with Andy, he called me on it privately, and I apologized to him about it. End of that story, Andy's my pal.

And it's not that I don't like 3.5 at all, I feel it fixes many things that needed to be fixed, but I also feel there are things that are being changed that don't need to be. ::shrug::

And yes, I was already planning to leave Washington state when the March 2002 terminations occurred, so I'm not bitter about that at all, honestly.

Beats the hell out of me.

But I have no doubt that Ed Greenwood could tell you.

Some areas have been developed in more detail that others, of course, but on the whole, I'd say there's more than enough historical detail to choose from.

Hell, there's the short-lived Arcane Age line ---- how many other fantasy settings have "prequel" campaigns, too?
