Secret Agent prestige class

First Post
I'm planning to run an adventure based on X5-The temple of death, and I'd like to create a prestige class based on the Diviners, the group of secret agents that acted sought out 'wrong thinkers' in the land of Hule.

I'm wondering if there are any prestige classes that provide a secret agent feel that might help generate an appropriate prestige class.

Diviners (not to be confused with the wizard speciality) were high-ranking agents of the Evil empire of Hule who sought any enemies of the state, including heretics, arcane spellcasters (who were outlawed), and those plotting against Hule and it's rulers. In the module is apparent that any class could qualify, though most were clerics and fighters.

What special abilites would a diviner have? I'm guessing some cleric spells would be appropraite, though perhaps it would be better to give them their own spell list with a mix of spells like detect thoughts, know alignment, clairvoyance, etc.)

Please note that I'm not putting this in the conversions forum, because I hope I get more reponses, and becasue I don't think this is a 'conversion' in the sence of comforming with WotC's rules on conversions, since if I converted the module X5, I wouldn't be able do create such a prestige class and insert it into a distributable conversion.

Ive not read anything on the Diviners, or the module itself, but you might want to look at the design of the Temple Raider of Olidimarra in Song & Silence... It grants secret agent sneakish skills and has a complimentary spell list that might go well with any secret agent, not just those bent on raiding temples. At any rate, you might consider tweaking it to make the flavor match what you're looking for.

You may want to use a combination. Just because a PrC is linked to an organization, that does not mean it has to be the only one.

The Church Inquisitor from Defenders of the Faith might be a good model for the clerical-types. Perhaps a Spymaster (from Song & Silence) for the more pedestrian operatives, or a combination of those for the leaders. FFG has a Thug NPC class ( sort of a lesser Rogue like the Warrior is a lesser Fighter) in Traps & Treachery (and reprinted in their Dragonstar line Starfarer's Handbook) --- that might be good for some devoted lay followers. Additionally, The Assassin's Handbook from Green Ronin has a version of the Assassin as a base class, with depictions and PrCs suitable for both secular and religious organizations. Those might also be suitable.

The Clerics should definitely have some protection from or resistance to Charms and Mind-Affecting magics. Most should have some enhancement to Bluff (to maintain cover identities) and Sense Motive (to more effectively find the sneaky heretics).

Also, on the equipment side, one of Monte Cook's Books of Eldritch Might (II, IIRC) has some branding irons that inhibit spell and ability use; those would be just right for evil inquisitors hunting down illegal arcane casters.

This isn't conversions, this is house rules! Or it will be when you're ready to build the class. If you're just seeking info, it's fine in General.

Have you considered stealing from Spycraft?
