Seeking Sneak Attack clarification for 3.0...

No no, no full attack. They Spring in, attack with SA, then use the second partial action for another move. Gives them 60 ft (for medium critters) of movement to play with while the opponent is tied up with the more combat intensive character. ots of room to flank then run. The rogues AC was high enough to avoid most, if not all, the AoO's involved.

Okay - yeah, that's fine.

A sensible rogue would work from 25 feet rather than 30, so he could Spring in, attack, and Spring back 5 feet, then use the Haste partial to move back further... since the move made as part of the Spring Attack draws no AoOs from the target.

'No AoOs' is better than 'High AC vs AoOs' :)

But if they're using Spring Attack, they're only getting one Sneak Attack per round anyway... so allowing or disallowing full Sneak Attacks won't alter that...?

It wouldn't. I was responding to the 'Why do you hate your rogue players?' question. Just showing that I don't hate them, and that they found a way around it.

It's funny that many posters in this thread assume that the rogue does more damage than the fighter, but cannot stay in contact with monsters as long and that this is what balances them.

I mean, I understand why people say that and that it is the case. It's just that in a game I currently play in (18th level), the party barbarian always does more damage than my rogue in combat, but I'm slightly more durable than him (same AC, he has more 150% of my HPs but I Blink). :D

Of course, that's a barbarian, and not a fighter and the ring does mess things up a little. So it's not funny in the sense of "wrong" or ridiculous as much as funny to me personally. :)

No no, no full attack. They Spring in, attack with SA (standard action), Spring away, then use the second partial action for additional movement. Gives them 60 ft (for medium critters) of movement to play with while the opponent is tied up with the more combat intensive character. Lots of room to flank then run. The rogues AC was high enough to avoid most, if not all, the AoO's involved, and if the players are working well together, he avoids most of the spells.

We compared it to Beastboy creaming Adonis in their last fight scene. :)

I could be wrong in the interpretation, but that's how we played it.

Oh, no! One attack a round with sneak attack and they arent left next to the horrible monster! The horror!

Dude, as a player of a rogue, if you are only making one sneak attack a round - you really arent cutting it. If you want to even TRY to keep up with the fighters, you must two-weapon, and stand next to the monsters and get yourself killed. I have played rogues in all sorts of campaign settings and I have never kept up with the fighters, even at higher levels (17-20th). I dont have the base attack to back it up, or the hit points to stand up.

As another poster mentioned, Blink is your friend. 50/50 miss chance is better than any AC you will ever get.

My campaigns tend to be more skill/tactics based than raw combat. Rogue gets his chance to shine. :)
