Seelie & Unseelie Courts?

My fey court is a little skewed. Good and evil are terms that don't apply to them as they drift into and out of alignment. They are capricious and fickle, a fey is willing to heal you one moment and then steal from you the next.

Some of this is based on external circumstances, like the weather; so the implied images of winter=evil; summer=good works fine, but remember, they really are the same court.

So too, extreme emotion; pixies may be joyously dancing in a circle of light, fun and free, but as they drink, some of the fey take it to the point where they must burn everything around the pyre, pushing people in or trying to spread the flames to burn down the forest.

The trick is, fey like to be entertained. Give them a gift, play them music, tell a limerick and they adore you, and help you in whatever ways they can. If you seem sour or mean, they will turn on you, and may poison your drink with a drop of their own bile.

Might I also recommend a book that I worked on, "Van Richten's Guide to the Shadow Fey"? It's Ravenloft 3.5, based on the material that appeared in the 2nd-edition product, "The Shadow Rift". I wrote a short section on the 9 alignments from a fey perspective that might interest you. There's also information on the Ravenloft Seelie and Unseelie courts, which are essentially determined by the breed of the fey and which of the two rulers the fey have allegiance to.
