Seen the Dreamblade minis? Like/don't?

Someone told me once that if you get them good and cold, as in leaving them in the freezer for a while, they can be snapped off the base fairly easily. I haven't tried it yet, but if you do I would suggest trying it with a lesser figure (one you can spare) as a test. Anyone else tried this?

That might work for other minis, but Dreamblade minis are unusual in that the miniature isn't glued directly to the base. Rather, the miniature and the black part of the base are a solid piece of plastic, so at best doing that would just remove the mini along with the smaller base.

Interesting. That black part is small enough to maybe become a standard Medium base, though, or could be clipped then glued to a dirrerent base and be hidden well by flocking. Has anyone tried this method?

Some awesome minis there. A lot of WTF minis, as well.

I specially like the "location" ones (castles, portals, mine, etc) and the Faceless Desperado.

I wants me some Faceless Desperado.

Most of the fear minis seem like they'd be directly useful in D&D. Madness is a mixed bag... Some great far-realms things in there, but a lot of it just isn't appropriate for generic fantasy. In general, a lot of the more monstrous (i.e. non-humanoid) minis are great.

I sat down last night with a dremel to try and de-base some minis, but couldn't really figure out a good angle of attack. :/

Hmm, cutting the base away chunk by chunk could work, but I'd just recommend using an #11 Xacto blade with the technique mentioned upthread.

Edit: Here is an idea i just got. Have not tried it out yet.

That would only work if the radius of the cutting wheel minus the radius of the metal rod it's attached to were more than half the width of a DB mini's base. In other words, if the cutting wheel's diameter were a bit longer than the DB mini's base.

Which it isn't. Not even close. :(

And of course you can't go the other direction, because the screw securing the cutting blade offsets it by a millimeter or so, meaning you'd lose a good chunk of the bottom. Maybe not a problem for some of the more monstrous minis, but that could easily mean losing the feet of some of the smaller ones.

Also, I don't have a clamp. :(

Maybe a few runs with a drill bit at the corners of the inner base, but not drilling all the way through, would give some purchase to slip something in there to pry it out?

The barbarian approach is to use some garden clippers to make a first slice across the base and then BREAK the rest of the perimeter off with needle-nose pliers. Its rough, but the perimeter plastic is actually pretty brittle and cracks easily. Kinda fun.
