Sell me on...

I would go with Conan, Spell Compendium, and Bards Gate before I went with PHBII.
Of the three, Spell Compendium is the most useful. I don't play Conan, but Atlantean Edition is nice, so I would say it is a toss up between Conan and Bards Gate.

So I think you would get the most use out of Spell Compendium or Bards Gate. Bards Gate is a great city, so it is not limited to spall casting characters. But personally if it is a choice between those two, SC is it.

Thanks for all the advice. I still haven't decided, yet. I likely won't decide until I get to my FLGS.

And I'm the DM of my group, which means that I'm more into books that would be useful for me. I haven't bought the Spell Compendium because I see it more as a player's sourcebook, but then again, PHB II falls into that category too.

And while I REALLY want the Conan book, I doubt I'll have much chance to use it, as most of my players prefer "a standard D&D game". But it sure is tempting! :D

Beast Builder sounds like it might be a good reference for me, but, then again, I have little trouble coming up with new monster ideas. Sounds like it might be similar to the d20 Monsters Handbook from FFG.

However, if Bard's Gate is available at my FLGS then that will likely trump both PHB II and Conan. I sooo want that book. (I wish I had the money for all three.)

Cheers!

I'd go with Conan -- nothing wrong with something different. If not, then I'd go with Bard's Gate, which looks really cool, IMO. I think Necromancer puts out good stuff.

I keep hearing about this but I keep imagining something like "reptiles lay eggs, mammals don't. Large creatures have lots of HD, small creatures, less so".

Zzzzzzzz.

Everything I've seen about it says "it's good" but nothing more. Does anyone care to sell this or point to a review?

D&D Spell Compedium is really good. Within a week of it hitting shelves 5 of the 6 people I game with had it. We are working on the 6th.

How? how do you do that? If I see more than one copy of a book at the gaming table I probably have high alcohol levels in my blood. My players aren't big on buying stuff

It's good.

The Auld Grump, who will follow with a more detailed description when he has time. But was under the delusion that this was funny. :p
*EDIT* Or perhaps he will cheat, and give a link to a review that already exists
