[Semi-OT]Looking for a board-game type thing...

A while back (6 months?), there were some posts about a board game being re-released after it had been out of print for some time... I remember it was moderatly pricey (50+ dollars I think)... big gameboard, took place in a fantasy realm... Kinda DnD meets tactical wargaming type thing? Anyone remember what this is? I remember there was a website to order it, but I didn't have the money at the time.

i am fairly versed in Fantasy Board games, and I really can't think of what you're referring to.

Maybe some more information or memories about it?

Titan certainly comes to mind, but any others?

I suspect you're referring to Greg Costikyan's Barbarian Kings, as I seem to recall a thread about it about 6 months ago, and because the re-release is overly-expensive (in my opinion).

It's not out yet, I don't believe. It'll be from Jolly Roger Games, who's lousy site can be found at:

Here's the blurb:

The game is a redesign of Costikyan's classic Ares Magazine game "Barbarian Kings." It is a game of economic management and army conquest as kings, wizards, and heroes battle across the land. Barbarian Kings uses simultaneous movement and has races ranging from elves to barbarians to flying men - each with their own powers. As regions are conquered, they can be used to hire troops of the various races, all called to your banner by thoughts of conquest and glory

Hmmmm... That MIGHT be it, but I don't think so for some reason.

I remember it used a hex-map... Lotsa bright colours on the map... not terribly artistic. Or at least, the image of the map I had... I remember there was a computerized version of it made by fans that came witha bitmap of the board, which is what I had. It had sorta a cult following.

Grrrr... Can't really think of anything else.

Maybe you're thinking of HeroQuest? It's not being re-released, to my knowledge, but it is on e-bay, out of print and has been discussed here on the boards.
