Sending Wiz5 Question

First Post
The Sending spell (wiz5) begins with a discription on whom you might cast a sending too.

"You contact a particular creature with which you are familiar and send a short message of 25 words or less to the subject. The subject recognizes you if it knows you"

My quesion is what is being familiar with a creature mean?
Apperently you dont have to know it for it only recognizes you if it knows you?

ANy idea's?

I've always assumed it meant someone you've seen, whether through a scrying effect or in person. You can cast Scrying on someone by description and then cast Sending on them, for example.

It could mean the same as in the scrying spell, though.

I've always assumed it was similar to the Teleport spell language:
Teleport said:
Familiarity: “Very familiar” is a place where you have been very often and where you feel at home. “Studied carefully” is a place you know well, either because you can currently physically see it or you've been there often. “Seen casually” is a place that you have seen more than once but with which you are not very familiar. “Viewed once” is a place that you have seen once, possibly using magic such as scrying.
Or there is Familiarity from Scry: "Familiar (you know the subject well)".

Either way, I've always assumed that you have to actually know the person or have their name and a very good description of them from someone who does know them for Sending...
