[Sept] What are you playing?

Last week, I went to Barnes & Noble, where I just happened to pick up a copy of Mutants & Masterminds and start flipping. Little did I know that my face would become a part of the book for the next few days... After reading through the entire book about eighty-seven and a half times, I went and bought two extra copies for some guys in my playgroup. I'm not rich, but it was just that cool. You have to understand that I'm opting out of playing my 48th-level rog/wiz/asn/clr/ftr to play this game for a while. Every other week for the rest of my life, this game is on.

I was running midnight. Unfortunately the playes figured they were playing normal DnD. They tried to fight 8 orcs at level 2. Nearlly a TPK. I think I broke there spirit. Sham cos I really like midnight. :(

Playing Morrus's campaign. Group of 7 characters ~12th level... nearing the end of the first campaign arc, trying to stop a legion of orcs, some death knight and a meglomaniac Necromancer. Great stuff!

Highlight for me was last week: We faced the (fully buffed) Death Knight trying to 'tactically withdraw' from his castle. He turned up with a small child as a shield. Realising a) we couldn't beat him in a stand up fight, b) the child was an illusion... managed to get away with a combination of a high ledge, telekinetic bullrush, a net, a large pot of non flamable grease and some running... Lots of fun. :)

Also playing a Battletech campaign - we are the Clanners, scouting out our invasion of the inner sphere. Cthulu elements have started turning up. :uhoh: Strange, but good.

Planning a campaign to run after the Battletech one finishes. A Knightly order game or possibly some Dark Sun. Or Planescape. Dither. Dither. Dither.

Just moved to RI and started a new 3.5 game. There are a few newbs in it (which actually makes it kind of fun) and the DM is really good (lots of props and maps). I've been going through a little bit of D&D burnout but it's actually nice to play with some people who are new to the game because it's not really about the most powerful characters and builds.

I'm also taking a new approach with my character: a half-orc (never played one before) who's not stupid (although he's a bit naive to civilized regions) and uses a spiked chain (never used one before either).

I've also given myself a few conditions for this campaign to keep it fresh for me:
1. No hardcore build planning:
2. No metagaming
3. Stay in character as much as possible, including using an accent :D
4. Have FUN!

Everyone seems to love Barshek so far. We had hilarious moment last session. We have been seeing a ghost at night in the city and we have been following it and eventually to an abandoned warehouse. We fought some baddies there and thought the ghost led us there for a reason. We searched the place but didn't find anything and then the local authorities took over. The next night, Barshek had visions of the ghost crying out in pain. He kind of freaked out and ran back to the warehouse. When he got there, the door was locked so he bashed it down. Well the guards were still there and there was almost an "incident". When asked why he bashed the door down Barshek responded, "Because it was locked." Classic. I guess you had to be there. :)

I'm playing in another 3.5 campaign but it's kind of on hiatus right now. One guy is moving so we might start from scratch again and I might run a low-magic Grim Tales campaign.

I would love to get a Mutants & Masterminds or Shadowrun campaign going but it's a little more difficult to find players for that.

I hear ya. When I got the book, the ideas just started flowing. I have a little notebook full of names, adventure ideas, etc. Unfortunately, I don't live in the Underdark, otherwise I would love to join your game. :\

I'll be running a Classic Deadlands Campaign, starting next week, as a break from our ongoing Spelljammer game.

Piratecat will be joining us in October for a few games here and there.

Heh, so I'll be GMing a game for Piratecat. Talk about pressure! I don't feel qualified to PLAY in one of his games, let alone run one. :)

(For those of you who don't know, PC runs a kick-butt game. I had the pleasure of watching him a bit at the last ENWorld Gameday).

I'm looking forward to it, as Deadlands is an awesome system.

This is what I call "inflated expectations." I'm a crappy player, but I've got an old prospector loaded down with dynamite and nitro - so there's bound to be explodin' mules! :)

In addition to the Deadlands game that I'm really looking forward to:

- In Sagiro's game, we just resolved a major plot point by taking down a big baddie. It was meant to be a VERY hard fight, but we lucked onto near-perfect tactics and turned it into a cakewalk.

- In KidCthulhu's game, we're trying to assault an evil bard in a ruined tower. This guy is an old enemy and one nasty piece of work, and we keep blundering into his prepared traps. I think we're as nervous of being embarrassed as we are of being defeated.

- In my game, the group just paid a visit to an eminent fiend-summoner and his fiendish minions. It was some very fun roleplaying as they tried not to mortally insult him.

Hopefully get in some sessions on my Wilderlands campaign.

I'm also looking at writing a Conan scenario for one on one or two players to give a bit more chance of getting some gaming in.

Running a Forgotten Realms campaign set in the Vast. Characters are presently second level and have just about routed a rather large group of organized bandits from the farm.
