a)Initiative - The whole point of my objection to your argument was that it was the "friend's" initiative, and you were saying all he could do was "Aid Another", which was useless.

Right, because that's all I thought he could do, aside from just killing or incapacitating the mind flayer, of course.

Absolutely, but because no source was provided, it simply appeared to be a house rule. I'm glad it's not though. The "Break Another's Pin" option is pretty cool.

Not at all. Due to our lack of knowledge regarding the "Break Another's Pin" in the rules, you appeared to be proposing a house rule (as you had already done above with the Concentration check), and without a source in the rules, it remained that way. That's all.
