Serenity Role Playing Game. What is the good, the bad, and the ugly?

Someone from MWP can obviously contradict me, but Cortex exists because they wanted a system over which they had ownership and could leverage for future RPG releases. That they are tying it to various licenses is indicative that it wasn't designed to "do" Firefly.

They are using it for other games and it seems like the system has improved. I'm going to review the latest Cortex game next week (the Demon Hunter game) and that is a lot different from Serenity and the other space game they have.

Actually, my criticism wasn't based on time, nor am I damning them for not fixing issues. . .

Really?

In that case, you'd think they'd have had enough time to make it a decent system. ;)

[Edit: Note that this was the remark that I initially responded to when posting my explanation of time not necessitating rule revisions, please.]

Yes, really. How about you bother to quote the whole chain, instead of just the little piece you decided inexplicably to focus on? [Note that wasn't even the first remark you responded to, either - and my remark was in direct response to yours.]

Here is my take on it:

* The system sucks. It is a bad Savage Worlds rip-off.
* The fluff is great. Too bad there isn't more.

We played a 'Verse campaign using the Savage Worlds rules with the Serenity RPG fluff, and it was shiny. :)

I think the system existed before Savage Worlds did.

Its certainly possible, although Savage Worlds was a system before Firefly was a TV show, so unless they imported the system (meaning the Serenity RPG) from somewhere else - which is entirely possible - I doubt it.

I know the Serenity folks have claimed more than once that they didn't take anything from SW, so no accusation was meant there. Let me restate, and say that it plays like a bad Savage Worlds rip-off. :)

And Cortex was a game system before Great White Games was a company ;)

My complaint was and is only that the system stinks. I don't particularly care how long its been around, now matter how much you want to focus on that or defend it.
