[Serenity RPG] Across the 'Verse: Old Friends

"Why am I not surprised that 4 years go by and you just look prettier?" He offers a large grin. "It is good to see you again."

"We'll I've been up to a lot, but recently I've been stuck ferrying goods and folk 'tween Greenleaf and these moons in my Sparrow. Can't seem to get aboard a real ship. But me being on a different rock ain't no suprise, what are you doing out here? Have you been planethopping for a spell?"

“Me? Oh, travelling, saving young girls. Yaknow, that sort of thing. Actually, I have had a bit of a rough ride on the last world I was, well, you know me a bit, can't really keep my nose out of trouble, so I decided to turn my back on it and seek out a new place to be for a while, all for the better. So, here I am!”

Castor holds out his hand towards where he thinks she is.

"I can't speak for this gentleman, Mizz, but I'm meeting Melanie here in an hour or so. She will have arranged for something for me, I do believe."

He smiles a big toothy grin. "I'm the evening's entertainment!"

"Mahalo - you are Mr. McMenomy then? Wonderful," and Castor can just about hear the smile. "Melanie will be in the ballroom. I can have your things brought to the conference room where the other performers are, and you are free to visit the grand ballroom, where you will be performing tonight."

She turns to Lucius still smiling, "And are you performing this evening as well? I know we were still expecting some of the musicians...or were you checking in?"

"Me?" Lucius points to himself, "A musician? No ma'am, I'm just here with Mr. McMenomy. I won't be needing a room, thanks." He turns and looks around at the place, pretty swank and impressive. Still, though, following the signs hadn't really lead him to a way off this rock, only a means to occupy his time for some entertainment. Entertainment from a blind man, no less.

Castor and Lucius

She responds to Lucius, "Very good; you are, of course, more than welcome while Mr. McMenomy prepares for the show - were also you planning to stay for the ball?"she asks with just the glance flickering almost imperceptibly down to his working class shoes.

"Part of the reason I'm havn't booked a short hop off this tiny moon yet was to talk to Derek Wildstar, I think I mentioned him at one point. Old captain I flew for once or twice. I spoke quickly to him a couple days ago, and he seems more down on his luck then usual. That's him right there," Aaron spits on the sand by his feet (hazard of chewing tobacco).

"Hi Derek, its good to see you so hale and hearty," Aaron gives him a wry smile. "This here is Tatjana, I met here on Peresephone 'bout four years ago. She's a real knockout and I don't mean her good looks. Never seen a girl whose as good in a spot of trouble. Oh, and she's humble to, unlike your's truly."

"How're things going with the old ship?"

Tatjana

“Hello Mr. Wildstar, pleased to meet you,” her russian ancestriy is easily noticed in her accented english.

OOC: I think Tailspinner is preoccupied elsewhere, however... havn't seen him post recently.

"Mahalo - you are Mr. McMenomy then? Wonderful," and Castor can just about hear the smile. "Melanie will be in the ballroom. I can have your things brought to the conference room where the other performers are, and you are free to visit the grand ballroom, where you will be performing tonight."

With a flick of his wrist, Castor turns his unanswered hand away. He's not overly eager to go straight into the ballroom -- he feels no need to hang out in a green room until the show -- and he does have some real questions first, and will be looking for opportunities.

"Has a room been arranged for me this evening?" he asks, fearing he's been misunderstood. "Perhaps I've not understood what was being offered here..." His voice trails off with a small note of disappointment. "There's nothing in that bag I'll need until after the show." This isn't strictly true: he might change and brush his teeth, but that's not the point.

"I was also wondering what you could tell me about the ball tonight. What're we celebrating?" Castor wants to find out about Mr. B before he goes in to meet Melanie. If the answer doesn't mention him, he'll ask directly. Who is his patron for the evening, and what do his employees and those around him think of him?

Castor and Lucius

The girl listens as Lucius says he doesn't need a room and realizes Castor believed he had one. Miscomprehension dawns: "Oh! Melanie had not informed me that she had arranged a room for you and your..friend? The Ihilani is rather booked for this week's festivites, and each of the planners has been given only a few rooms to comp. But, Melanie may have had one left for you - it's her first big event, and she's been a little scattered. She probably simply failed to tell me. I will speak with her and have your things moved there immediately if everything is in order."

When asked about the ball, she answers brightly, "Concord was founded twenty years ago this coming Friday - tonight begins a week of official celebrations, and of course, the Ihilani was the perfect place for the first event, given how important Mr. Balino was to bringing the Bazaar to Liann Xin in the first place." Her smile never changes, but it seems as if she has slipped into rote recitation of the company line at this point. "Without his vision, Concord and all of Liann Xin would not be what they are today. The governor himself will be here tonight, along with representantives of many other planetary governments throughout the system, not to mention the Merchants' Guild. Should be a wonderful evening."

When Castor asks her about Mr. Balino, she says, "Mr. Balino is a wonderful boss; almost everyone in Concord has him to thank for their jobs in one way or another." As she speaks, she gives a small gesture, and a young man dressed as a watier brings over two cold drinks. "Other than that, he and his wife, for whom the hotel is named, are involved in public service throughout the city, serving on the boards of a number of civic groups. Liann Xin is lucky to have them." It's hard to tell whether she is being sincere or totally ironic, or something in between.

"Mr. Balino is lucky to have such enthusiastic supporters," Castor says, wiping some irony from his chin with a thumb. "Sorry about the confusion," he smiles, waving his hand vaguely in the direction of his bag as he takes a few more steps away from it. "I'm sure Mr. Balino is a busy man -- any sense of what sort of music he likes? Or maybe his wife? This sounds like it'll be quite the swa-ray."

He listens to her answer, and then suggests that he can be back in the banquet hall in time to meet Melanie, thanking her again.

"Heh." He turns to Lucius, "Let's see if I have a tab at the bar..."
