Setting Search Contest

If it's not August 11th, then I'm sincerely hoping it's after August 22nd. I'll be in Hungary during that time and, despite the phenomenally unlikely chance that my setting is one of "the 10" (though I'm hoping for an increase in that number), I really don't want my congratulations letter to arrive on August 13th when I'm exploring castles in Budapest.

My guess

Based on the latest news on wizards.com, I'm going to guess August 26th. It's a Monday in "late August" and gives them all week to send out the word to the folks who don't make it.

Well I thought I would ressurrect this topic since many of the guesses are incorrect by now and it appears even the pessimistic people who guessed early september (myself included) maybe wrong as well. How can I say this with any certainty? Well AV posted the following on the OGL mailing list a day or two ago:

Folks,
I am going on vacation for a week starting Monday the 26th and will not return to the office until the 3rd of September. I will be unsubscribing to all of my e-lists so that I don't come home with a huge amount of e-mail. Just thought I would let everyone know so that wild rumours don't start flying.

AV

So unless they announce over the weekend (or equally improbably while AV is on Vacation) then it looks like August will not be the month.

Thoughts? Revised guesses? For myself I thinking September 8th.

My guess is monday the 26th. I am basing this on the fact that AV is taking a two week vacation, which I would say means they are done choosing. I could be wrong.

Aaron.

A reasonable expectation is that the week after Labor Day will be used for final decisions, including getting the approvals from higher authority. That includes committee voting on the finalists, narrowing it to the final 20 and then to the top 10.

Then, they check available records on the finalists names, including a google search on each name (looking for things that might make specific finalists embarrassing).

A deadline of Sep 6 for the decision, followed by notifications early the week of September 9.

Did you include your phone number with your submission? There was no place for it to be entered; you just had to add it.

Formal notifications, of course, would be by mail. First class mail reaches most people int he USwithin 5 days, so the first envelopes would get to people Sep 10 through the 13.
