Nah, as noted above, it's so Castlevania.

In other words, AWESOME. :D

I think I am going to run a two-arc campaign.

In the first arc, they hunt down the evil villain and kill him.

In the second arc, they have to gather his pieces and restore him to life to kill him again to lift the curse his death left on the land... or not. Like Castlevania 2, I think I'll have the ending depend on how much in-game time the second arc takes my players to complete.

Upon becoming "bloodied" elder vampires exclaim "And now you see my TRUE Form!" At which point their abilities double, and they grow one size category larger......

Upon reaching 0 Hit Points, an Elder Vampire exclaims "And now you see my REALLY TRUE FORM!" At which point they heal half their hit points, and again grow one size category larger.

...I actually like this idea...

With the new minion rules, I really like the idea of reanimating undead. It's a neat idea that's belonged in D&D for a while, just like the hobgoblin spellcasters in MM5 that drain the life out of normal hobgoblin warriors to enhance the potency of their spells.

Mario did not get undead foes untill Supermario Bros. 3 [japan 1988]. Now Castlevania has had reanimating red skeletons since the first game, though stealing a little form that franchise is more than fair considering the original US cover for part 2...

OMG. The picture is almost EXACTLY the same sans Simon Belmont. The angles and position of the balcony. The the metal gate above the window behind dracula/strahd, the eves of the crenelates on the wall, the gargoyles on the balcony, the conical, tiled roof, tower on the right, not to mention the pose/clothes of strahd/dracula himself. Only their head is looking a different direction.

This is DEFINITELY a copy of one or the other (not sure which came out first)-- it cannot be a coincidence.

Ravenloft was first, then Castlevania 2. See, it's videogames copying D&D!

I like it a lot, have no desire to put it in small sized font, and implemented it in a fairly cludgy manner in the last 3.5 campaign I ever ran by having "boss" type NPCs spend their wealth-by-level on Contingent Spells ala Complete Arcane.

The idea of it becoming core and expected is probably the single thing I like best about what we've heard of 4e so far. :)

So now not only are they taking things right out of WoW but they rip off Diablo 2 now aswell...damn those guys they can't think of anything new!.......

As long as its great and fun ideas like these, I am all good with ripping off other games.

Oh, sure, it's a good idea, as is the "NOW YOU SEE MY TRUE FORM" business, much as it reminds me of Dragonball, and Final Fantasy games...

(cue somebody to remind me what the true antecedent of "now you see my true form" is :D )
